I don’t often review products on this site, preferring to keep it focused mainly on affiliate marketing. But when a friend reached out to me on LinkedIn about a product she is working with, I knew immediately it would be right at the intersection of writing about affiliate marketing and actually DOING affiliate marketing! (Disclosure: I was sent a Tri-Screen 2 for free to review. In addition, this post contains my affiliate links to earn commissions on the product. The review and experience with the product are 100% my own!) Affiliate Marketing on the Road The last 3 posts I have written on ..read more

Can Small Businesses Keep Afloat in the New Affiliate Marketing?
Tricia Meyer

As PMA Executive Director, I LOVE seeing the growth of affiliate marketing. With every passing year we see more merchants giving it a chance and more traditional media finding ways to integrate it. But as a small affiliate, the pond just keeps getting bigger while I stay the same size. I’m happy with my “lifestyle business” and the flexibility that it allows me. At the same time, I can’t help but always wonder how much longer my 17-year-old business can stay competitive. If you know me, you know I’m the original Pollyanna with rose-colored glasses. Because of that, I want to give you my tips ..read more

Affiliate and Influencer Disclosure Cheat Sheet
Tricia Meyer

Now that we have had some time with the newly revised FTC Disclosure Guidelines, we are starting to think about the practical application in addition to the big picture. One of the questions that I have been asked the most is about what exactly the FTC has said can and cannot be used for disclosure. It’s a little tricky because the actual “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising” themselves do not give us examples but rather just the overall rules. So we have to look to other resource documents like “FTC’s Endorsement Guides: What People Are Asking” and “Dis ..read more

As an affiliate marketer, efficiency is key. We’re constantly monitoring stats, networks, social media, email…. never wanting to miss the newest thing or promotional opportunities. Because of that, we have to use as many tools and shortcuts as we can to stay efficient. My new favorite Chrome extension is PartnerMe. It saves me so much time every single week (especially for my cash back site where members are always asking me to add new merchants)! In fact, I was on a consulting call today and one of the client’s biggest sources of frustration is completely solved by this extension! How Do Af ..read more

Over a decade ago, I reached out to someone I had met at Affiliate Summit, asking if he would be interested in a Mastermind Group. He approached another Affiliate Summit attendee that we were both a little acquainted with but not exactly friends with. Little did we know the friendship that was about to be formed as well as the ways that it would change all of our businesses.  The Mastermind Group We started meeting as a Mastermind Group every Friday afternoon in 2011. At Affiliate Summit West 2012, we gave a presentation entitled Mastermind Groups Exposed: Success in Affiliate Marketing ..read more

Converting from Mailchimp to Aweber

(This post contains my Aweber affiliate links, for which I earn a commission) When I first started in affiliate marketing, I created my mailing lists on Aweber like pretty much every affiliate I knew. I always liked the company itself. However, as I started integrating my lists into my sites more, I ran into some problems with using RSS feeds that they couldn’t fix at the time. So I moved everything to Mailchimp, where things were great for 6 years. However, over the last 3 years, my Mailchimp monthly fees have gone up 40%. That’s a considerable increase, especially considering I only use 4 ..read more

(I’m currently in middle of changing email services so follow me on LinkedIn or Twitter for updates!) In February 2020, the FTC solicited feedback on the “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsement and Testimonials in Advertising.” On behalf of the Performance Marketing Association, I submitted comments. Today the FTC voted to release proposed changes to the Guides and open that proposal up for public comment. You can read the full document here.  The document is 77 pages long, so I am going to attempt to break down what I consider to be the most important parts for affiliate marketers. C ..read more

Stayin’ Alive in Affiliate Marketing

I wasn’t one of the “original” affiliate marketers, but I have definitely been around long enough now to be considered one of the “old timers.” I already had a legal career when I came to affiliate marketing, and I didn’t expect to find an entirely NEW career in writing about potty training. But parenting posts led to coupons, which led to datafeeds, which led to privacy concerns, which led me back around to legal issues. And here I still am almost 17 years later. As I was thinking today about all of the changes in our industry over these 2 decades, the song “Stayin’ Alive” kept running thro ..read more

Is It Time for You to Energize Your Affiliate Career?

When I started in affiliate marketing 17 years ago, my kids were 2 and 4. I blogged about nap time and trips to the library and how to save money on diapers. I worked on my websites outside of my “real” job hours… on weekends and after the kids went to bed. I was constantly hustling to try to learn the industry and grow my business with new initiatives so I could be a full-time affiliate marketer and spend lots of time with my kids. Fast forward to now. Last month my nest became empty when my younger daughter went to college. I haven’t launched a new website or initiative in probably 10 year ..read more

The Value of the FrieNDA
Tricia Meyer
by Tricia Meyer

If you’ve been in business for any amount of time, you likely know that an NDA is a Non-Disclosure Agreement. These are generally legally binding documents that both parties sign to be able to share information without the fear of that information being spread to outside parties. But have you ever heard of a FrieNDA?  FrieNDAs are used a lot by my circle in affiliate marketing. As a lawyer, I am compelled to tell you that they are not usually binding. But that doesn’t mean that they do not serve a purpose and shouldn’t be used. A FrieNDA is invoked when you want to have a serious conver ..read more
