Nothing special to show for this one | John Schneider - SB Nation For the second game this season, the bull pen has a huge collective melt down, and the Hokies lose a big lead to an opponent. Hokies fall 10-13 to Duke in Game 3, after giving up a five-run lead in the 7th. This One Won’t be Long. It’s Too Painful The Hokies did it again. For 6 innings the team played a solid up game. Starting pitcher Griffin Stieg, wasn’t pitching pure flame, but he was keeping the Blue Devil offense from crossing the plate more than the Hokies could cross it in return. Then, for some reason, Stieg was pulled i ..read more

Duke’s right handed heavy lineup proved the left/right thing might be a myth | John Schneider - SB Nation It’s a lovely evening in Blacksburg after a dreary Friday, but Friday means series baseball, and the 7th Ranked Duke Blue Devils are in town. This is a tough but winnable series. The Hokies need it. The Clouds Broke and the Storms Averred The Blue Devils aren’t going to be so accommodating about cooperating with a lovely easy day at the ballpark. They are a seriously good baseball program looking to finish in the top of the ACC and make a run in the NCAA post season playoffs. Duke comes to ..read more

A dreary 2019 Senior Day in Blacksburg | John Schneider - SB Nation The trajectory of collegiate athletics has been moving towards professionalization for a while. When did it actually start, what are the driving components, and the possible fallout of the de facto establishment of another professional sports organization. GO HOKIES!!! What’s All This, Then? Several of our regular commentors and many of our casual passersby have commented on something that sparked a reaction that has gone from giving pause, to actually coming to an understanding. College Sports are dead (at least as far as the ..read more

Photo by M. Anthony Nesmith/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images The portal has opened for the spring. The Virginia Tech Hokies entered spring practice over the 85 scholarship limit. The Hokies knew some tough decisions would need to be made after spring practice, and those tough decisions began on Wednesday. RB Tralon Mitchell: 6-foot-0. 209, Middlesex, N.C. QB Dylan Wittke: 6-foot-1, 201, Buford, Ga. S Antonio Cotman: 6-foot ..read more

Henry Cooke gets the ball out after a strikeout in the 1st inning. | John Schneider - SB Nation It’s a pleasant Tuesday evening in Blacksburg with the short rain shower having passed us by, it’s time for some mid-week baseball. The Highlanders aren’t far from home, and the Hokies need a win to get their feet back underneath them. Time to Play Ball! The Weekend Didn’t Turn Out Like We Planned Saturday and Sunday are now behind us. The Athletic Department had good news in the 2nd round draft of Elizabeth Kitley, and now it’s time for a bit of a pick me up from the baseball team. Baseball can be ..read more

Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports Another solid pickup for Mike Young. The sky was falling at the end of the season when several Virginia Tech men’s basketball players entered the NCAA transfer portal. Center Lynn Kidd quickly signed with Miami and guard Tyler Nickel signed with Vanderbilt last week. Virginia Tech’s best player, point guard Sean Pedulla, remains uncommitted — for now. Meanwhile, head coach Mike Young is continuing to reshape the roster amidst the chaos of the portal and NIL. The Hokies added guard Jordan Ivy-Curry (UTSA) and forward Ben Burnhmam (Charleston) — both of whom ..read more

A quiet field on a windy day | John Schneider - SB Nation The series started off with a roar, and then baseball happened. Hokies explode on Friday evening with great pitching and huge offense, only to have both phases melt away in the 2nd game and disappear in late innings for the third game. If a Series was Just One Game It’s looking a whole lot like the Virginia Tech Hokie Baseball team is starting into a downward slope skid. It’s recoverable, but at the moment, Tech has only won two games in the last 7 starts, and one of those was non-conference. They’ve now lost their 2nd ACC series in a r ..read more

John Schneider - SB Nation A good move by the Hokies to announce this at the spring game. Elizabeth Kitley’s time at Virginia Tech is over. Kitley completed her playing career in March, and her last game in a Hokies’ uniform, unfortunately, came in the regular-season finale at Virginia when she injured her ACL. Kitley missed the ACC Tournament and NCAA Tournament. A lot has happened since Kitley played her last game. She’s undergone knee surgery, and her head coach, Kenny Brooks, left for Kentucky, taking her good friend, Georgia Amoore, with him. Virginia Tech has a new head coach, Megan Duff ..read more
