Heart of a Magnolia | Nuremberg | 2024
What does a street photographer do if he hasn’t (for various reasons) time to head into town for street shooting? He grabs his camera, heads out the door for five minutes and takes some ICM photographs of a nearby Magnolia tree that is in full blossom. And capturing the heart of a Magnolia…for a few more images from my quick lunch break photo session click below….
The whole thing did not take more than five minutes. I took the Fuji X-T2 with the Fujinon 18-55mm 1:2.8-4 and headed to the Magnolia tree standing 50 meters from our house. I intende ..read more

The Significant Other and I have spent the days before Easter down at our Southern Home in Genoa. Last time we were there we visited the photo exhibition Children by Steve McCurry. The same venue, Genoa’s Palazzo Ducale, now features another of my hero photographers of whom I own various books, Brazilian born Sebastião Salgado. Another week, another exhibition. Join me for a visit of the splendid exhibit “Aqua Mater”, combined with some in-show street photography….
Sebastião Salgado has made a profound impact with his striking black-and-white photographs that poignantly capture the lives of ..read more

Shining Light | Genoa | 2024
Easter is about color. As my Easter Egg for you, I’ll give you a colorful post this Easter Sunday. Enjoy some views of Genoa from above. Exactly one week ago The Significant Other and I had the chance to visit a Candlelight Concert on top of the Grattacielo Piacentini, the highest skyscraper in town. With the concert (film music by Ennio Morricone) came the opportunity to enjoy the splendid views from “La Superba”, as Genoa is affectionately known. Click below for more views of Genoa from above…

When live gives you lemons…make lemonade. If the sunny weather forecasted for an afternoon spent at Lido di Camaiore in Tuscany turns out to be rather dull, use the bad light for some long exposure photography of the incoming waves. All these shots were taken with 1/8 sec exposure speed, perfect for these kind of images. I didn’t carry any ND filters in my bag, which would have been necessary to reduce the incoming light enough to (combined with closing down the aperture and lowering the ISO) get to 1/8 sec on a bright afternoon. So using the bad and rather dark light as my natural grey filte ..read more

My photographic highlight of February was most definitely visiting the exhibition “Children” by one of my photographic heroes, Steve McCurry. Not only for seeing his magnificent work. But also for having the opportunity of doing some street photography inside the exhibition, and giving my readers the chance to take a glimpse at the fantastic documentary portrait work Steve McCurry is famous for. To take the tour of the exhibition The Significant Other visited in Genoa’s Palazzo Ducale earlier this month, continue after the jump.
Visiting a Steve McCurry exhibition offers a captivating journe ..read more

Mount Everest (8848m)
I wanted to do this post for quite some time now, but decided to save it for the last day of 2023. Because it means a lot to me. As a proud dad! Not that I didn’t embark on some nice trips myself this year: Seville and Dubai with The Significant Other. New York City together with Big Boy. But the families undisputed travel queen of 2023 is Big Girl. Because back in October she went to see the top of the world. No, she didn’t climb Mount Everest. But, fulfilling a dream, she went on an epic Three-High-Passes-Trek to the Everest Base Camp. Continue after the jump to see mor ..read more

Merry Christmas | Nuremberg | 2023
Running the corporate rat race until the very last moment, last night’s visit to the Christkindlesmarkt on Nuremberg’s Main Square in the Old Town felt like finally passing the finish line into a hopefully relaxing Christmas break. There were the beautiful sound of The Significant Other’s trombone choir playing Christmas chorals on the stage in front of the Church of our Lady. Then there was the sight of the Nuremberg Christkind Nelli Lunkenheimer passing by (and me having the Leica ready and getting a snapshot of her).
To everyone out there, but&nb ..read more

Believe | Brooklyn | 2023
To believe in what you do should give you a clear direction to pursue your dreams. Smoking weed, though, might just leave you circling the parking lot wondering where you parked your ambition
It seems this Brooklyn weed shop seems to take it with humor….a street shot captured the other week with my iPhone during a short father/son trip to the Big Apple.
Have a great Tuesday!

1/125 sec | f/2.8 | ISO 3200 | 70mm
Two girls taking a break in a Nuremberg coffee shop, or rather in the window of the coffee shop. Ignorant of the fact that they might be an attractive motive to the passing street photographer. Only that the photographer was by no means attracted by the human patrons of the Cafe. It was the rather hidden subject that did catch his eye. You see it looking over the edge ? This is why I love street photography.
Taken with the the Leica SL2-S and the Leica Vario Elmarit F/2.8 24-70 ASPH. Postprocessing with Adobe Lightroom Classic.
