How I cope with stress...
Keep Calm and Teach On.

Everyone deals with stress in different ways. This week I felt like I was drowning with paperwork. We are submitting our Student Learning Targets this week which is where we set a goal of how much our students will grow by the end of the year. Just a little nerve wrecking. You find yourself contemplating which students you think will go above and beyond whatever goal you set for them and then you have those students that could just completely shut down the day of the test and that goal goes out of the window. Our students take multiple tests. They take the state wide assessment called the iLEA ..read more

I'm not going to lie, it's very hard to not get stressed, overwhelmed, and start thinking negatively during the day. Sometimes you just need to take a little time for yourself to get back to the positive, student centered, loving teacher you know you can be. I truly believe that right now times can get extremely stressful. The work load just keeps getting higher and higher. The only thing I keep telling myself is that we are all in this together. Everyone around us is feeling the stress of implementing commons core and no longer transitioning.  We are also stressing about out unannounced ..read more

So as many of you may know, I submitted a project on DonorsChoose.org at the beginning of September. At first only my mom, my mother in law, and a good friend Heidi donated. The Chevron Fuel You School program finished funding it!! Yayyyy!!  Now, what did I get/need it for? I posted a project for my behavior management renovation I'm doing in my classroom. My sister, whom is a school psychologist in a neighboring pa ..read more

In my new district, teachers return August 2nd. I was able to get into my classroom during the first week of July. If you are following my journey on social media, you know that my new school is at a temporary location until our school is finished being constructed. We are hoping to move into our newly constructed school at some point this school year, but we all know construction can have many setbacks. This summer, my entire classroom was in my garage. Thankfully, I downsized A LOT in the move. There are a few things I decided to just store in my garage due to space in my temporary classr ..read more

It is time... for a change!

There is something very exciting and scary about change. For me, I have always dealt with change better when I was in control of it and knew it was coming. Anticipated change sits well with me. The end of the school year brought many mixed feelings. I felt in my gut that I needed to make a change. After teaching for 7 years in the same district/town, I could feel a shift in things personally and professionally that pushed me to make a move. I was contacted by a Principal in the town I live in. She had an opening. 5th grade Math. MY. DREAM. I went on an interview and was hired. The next fe ..read more

End of the year... you can't wait to pack up your room and run home for summer! A few weeks in, you are looking up organization ideas on Pinterest and Instagram. You start thinking about ways you can improve your classroom and make it more organized. This year, I am moving to a different school and district. My school is having a new school constructed, therefore we are at a temporary school. My school will hopefully be finished mid-year. All of the teachers voted on new furniture for the school before I was hired. They all opted out of having a teacher desk. Although this is new to me since ..read more
