If SPS relies on the stimulation of mechanoreceptors (outside of nociceptors) to activate inhibitory interneurons involved in nociception, why does that stimulation have to happen at the spinal cord level? Why can’t it happen at the nerves level, say by directly stimulation Ruffini corpuscules?

Wondering if I really messed up here. I was doing data collection with an EEG and a little bit of water got onto the electrode box while I was cleaning up. Like there were a couple drops of water on my hand when I went to move the box, and I wiped the water off as soon as it happened. The box isn't supposed to have any contact with water at all so I'm worried I messed up a really expensive device.

**Aristotle in his Parva Naturalia was the first to report a visual illusion known as the motion aftereffect (MAE). When one looks at the rocks beside a waterfall they may appear to drift upwards after one has viewed the flowing water for a short period-perhaps 60 seconds. Most accepted explanation for this illusion is said to be due to changes in the response of cortical direction-selective neurons.

So for context, i am wrapping up my 3rd semester of my comp sci degree, and have 3 more to go. I plan on studying neuroscience and eventually going to grad school for a PhD in computational neuro/ comp psychiatry. I am doing undergrad research here exploring the role of reward anticipation and its affect on processing of novelty is various domains of psychiatric symptomology. Unfortunately, my current research relies on behavioral data alone. I'd like to continue my research as an undergrad when i major in neuroscience. Problem is, I'm dirt poor, and would like to do my undergrad degree in st ..read more
