Galen Leather Slip-N-Zip 4 Slot Zippered Pen Pouch I’m finally starting to move around a little bit more post pandemic, though with caution and avoiding big crowds.  I find myself loading up a briefcase here and there and that of course requires pens. I have become a three fountain pen rotation person for several months now. About 6 months ago I tried the single fountain pen approach with the intent to really get to know a pen then decide if it’s a keeper or let it move to a new home.  I found that 1 pen was too limiting and I always wanted something different. So with  my recen ..read more

Phenx Products Orgen Pen Review
My Pen Needs Ink

DLC (Diamond-Like-Carbon) is a carbon-based coating that combines two different properties of diamond and graphite to create an extremely hard, wear resistant and friction free surface. Everything I have read on DLC brings it high praises for those advertised characteristics. DLC has many industrial applications and Phenx Products have applied it to their new stainless steel machined pen design, the Orgen. The market of machined pens is crowded. I have a solid collection but I’m a believer that there is always room for others that bring a quality product to the market. Phenx Products plans to ..read more

On a Whim Woodworks Fountain Pen Review
My Pen Needs Ink

My last three fountain pen purchases were driven by a different goal than normal. I shopped for the material I wanted the pen made from. I have always admired the Primary Manipulation series of acrylic mix that Jonathon Brooks makes and sells as blanks. I wanted the original formula which is commonly referred to as PM1 . The Pen Addict Slack channel came through for me when I posted a Want To Buy and somebody tipped me off to Alan Shrebtienko who runs On a Whim Woodworks. Alan has an Etsy shop and I contacted him immediately. He didn’t have a pen in PM1 already made ready to ship but he was ha ..read more

My Artsy Pens

I write a lot of lists. I don’t think that is unusual for pen people, or pencil people. It’s a utilitarian output that is a useful end product and a joy making with our writing instruments of choice. The majority of these list builds are morning rituals of a daily to do list for work. Usually one page suffices but sometimes by mid day it’s time for another clean sheet that is probably not absolutely necessary but it gives me a chance to slow down, take a mental break and use my pens, maybe a reboot after lunch with a clean list.  The physical exercise of making these lists allow me to pri ..read more

Narwhal Origional Fountain Pen Review

A Narwhal is considered the Unicorn of the Sea, yes I had to Google it because I had never heard the term before but admittedly never scored well on sea creature exams in school. I’ve been around fountain pens a few years but don’t really pride myself on being up with the latest news so the introduction of this brand more than a year ago flew right by me. This one came from my friends at Goldspot. My pen collection has grown lately with the purchase of three pens from other brands in the past couple of weeks. All three have been delightful picks so the bar was set high, especially for a $45 pr ..read more

Faber-Castell Broadpen 1554 Pen Review
My Pen Needs Ink

This might be shortest pen review I have ever written. To be clear I have reviewed pens that were in excess of 8” long, but this is not the length I’m referring too. By word count of today’s musings may be the winner for shortest ever. Most pens I review, and use, have a lot more detail that I have learned while using the pen and then my verbosity can appear. Threads, nibs, finials, bands, etc are all popular targets. I ran across today’s pen as a throw in to a recent order where I needed to get to the free shipping level and I generally like Faber-Castell products. Not a new trick for sure ..read more

Clairefontaine Europa Notemaker Plus Notebook Review
My Pen Needs Ink

I’m a spiral notebook user for one specific task, daily to do list for work. The A4 classic school size and format has always suited me. I start each day writing all of my to do’s for that day on a page with a bold date header then recently putting a colorful piece of Washi Tape (enabler: @gentlemanstationer) after the last item so I can see what I added during the day. Simple. Finding the right notebook over the years…….. not so simple. I’ve tried many brands and for the past few years the Clairefontaine has been the go to. Not the most inexpensive, but good paper, good availability, good col ..read more

AT Cross Bailey Rollerball Pen Review
My Pen Needs Ink
by Bob

Cross Bailey Rollerball Pen evangelists owe a debt to the A.T. Cross pen company. Maybe a graduation gift, promotion or other gift pen got you started, or got another pen nut you know started. Cross does the gifting pen extremely well. Presentation style packaging, marketing towards luxury and the available outlets for the product in major retail box stores. Where Montblanc probably capitalizes on the corporate achievement business Cross remains an affordable graduation, speaker appreciation and business gift that is easy to find. They make a good solid pen. Many non-pen people consider Cross ..read more
