I found her in the dumbest way possible: by trying a different spelling of her *first* name instead of the family name (of which I've tried every possible version).
I ran her through the german geneaology societies database one more time, but this time as Rosine instead of Rosina. And boom, there she was. Matching birthdate and burial date, with an entry for an older brother Gottfried who is also mentioned as witness "Godefriedus Blumenberg" in her wedding entry, and another younger brother. Also it ..read more

I would really appreciate it if someone could clip or screenshot an article in the
Courier-Post, Camden New Jersey, June 18, 1999, page 22
Don’t have the exact title, but it’s about a slander lawsuit filed against members of a Gloucester County church

I am trying to use DNA matches to find mystery ancestors on my paternal side and wanted to see if anyone has advice on how to move forward.
My dad's paternal grandparents are Ralph and Mary. My dad has lots of DNA matches through both of Mary's parents and through Ralph's mom's side, but not his dad's side. I sorted the DNA matches that don't match any of our known lines into an unknown group on Ancestry. Then sorted those into smaller groups based on shared matches and tried to find common ancestors within those groups.
How do I then use those common ancestors to figure out where we fit in ..read more

Hello! I’ve been doing genealogy for a bit and have been intrigued by the story of my 3x great grandfather, Thomas Meffan (Could be spelt Methven). He was born 21 May 1853 to Alexander Meffan and Mary Craig. In 1881, he married Jane Ross and later had one son and two daughters. The interesting part happens around 1911-1913. Something happens to John and his two daughters and wife leave for Canada together by 1913. The story goes that Thomas either died by falling off a cliff (maybe other death type) or had an affair. If anyone could find something regarding his death or rest of life that woul ..read more

Hi all, hoping for some help - I'm hoping to find the entry records/immigration card of a British citizen who emigrated to Brazil in 1922. According to a ship passenger list, he disembarked in Pernambuco. Is there a way to find Pernambuco entry records from 1922? I've only been able to find records for Rio de Janiero and Sao Paolo during that time period. Any help would be appreciated!

Hello.
I received my Grandfather's final payment worksheet and am having difficulty trying to figure out how to interpret the codes used. He was discharged from the Army in March of 1946 for reference. His other documents were destroyed in the fire of 1973.
Specifically, I'm trying to understand the codes listed under "Previous Organization (or place). Typed in the box is either WDBC APO 244 or WBBC APO 244. Could someone tell me what WDBC/WBBC stands for? I've looked for more specifics on APO 244 but can't find specifics. The only know about his WW2 service is that he was in the Pacific, but ..read more

I am looking for information on my great grandfather who was a prisoner of war during WWII, captured from Dunkirk (so I’ve been told). I have a record card which has lots of abbreviations and I wondered if anyone knew the meaning of any of them or could point me in the direction of somewhere to conduct research. I’ve found the records of questionnaires conducted by prisoners of war which aren’t digitised and held at The National Archives in London so I will be planning a trip there when I can manage it.
The abbreviations on the card are:
Prisoner of War PIIo23/R3 PIIo62/R3
Desertion: Now in a ..read more

have no specific question but would like to get in touch with anyone who's walked the same route before and would or could share their experience. Where to start looking? Who's the oldest ancestry they managed to trace back to? Any records from the Ottoman era. mom's from Cazin, some records show they came from the island of Krk in Croatia
edit:
that region of Bosnia fell the last to Ottomans, around 1578 to 1592. Austria Hungary Empire conquered it in 1878. Do you think Austria or Hungary might have any records on this?

I am looking for a great aunt (my mother’s mother’s sister). Growing up, my mother vaguely remembered an aunt named Lillian. She “went away” when my mom was a child and no one else in the family would admit she ever existed. It’s possible that she died, but then why would the family disown her? We always thought there was more to the story. Her mother (Mary Ann) and aunt (Alice) as well as her brother and sister refused to admit she ever existed. All of these people have now passed on, so I don’t really have any family to ask. My mom remembered a rumor that Lilian had dated my grandfather bef ..read more
