This is not exactly a blog as such, more of information. One of the things going on this month is a presentation on Apidae Compassion Care which I had not heard of, so googled what it was about.
Giving support for elders and giving them a sense of independence and dignity so they can stay safe in the familiar surroundings of their home or care facility. I came across some really great tip to help loved ones living with Dementia. So I thought I would post this as some of these I would never have thought of… until now.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you hang my first drawings on your refrigerator; I wanted to draw you another.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you feeding the little birds who had fallen from their nest; I learned that it was good to be kind to animals.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you make my favorite cake; I learned that the little things can be the special things in life.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I heard you say a prayer, I learned there is a God I could always talk to.
When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you make a meal for a sick friend; I learned w ..read more

Careful. . .
For they are words spoken out of mindless immaturity
Words spoken in childishness. . . does not dull the pain
Conquest. . .
For the moment perhaps. . . as you smile triumphantly
And when life conquers you. . . where will you run?
Wishes. . .
Not hearing the words wished for. . . you ask not to be spoken to
One of my cherished ones you no longer wish to be
My heart despairs
I surrender
Granted. . .
I respect your wishes
In your life I no longer reside
Wisdom. . .
Learned in later years. . . life will be your teacher now
The harshest teacher. . . with no love at all

Your eyes are closed and the movie you hate the most is playing over and over and over again . . . you can’t pause it, you can’t turn it off and you can’t drown it out. You try to ignore it; you play the music loud and try to push it to one corner of your brain hoping to drown it out. . . and you move on. The blasted movie won’t go away. It’s as if it’s on a separate audio track. . . playing out of sync. . . in the opposite corner of your mind. . . this time in reverse. . . from the end. . . backward to the beginning, always spinning around and around. You can’t adjust the volume or stop it; i ..read more

Children are being diagnosed with mental illnesses with increasing frequency. Managing with stress is very difficult for persons who suffer from the illness known as Bipolar Disorder, formally known as Manic Depressant; it is just as difficult for children who are victims of this disease.
Tahree Lane, a staff writer for The Blade wrote, “An estimated 7.5 million American children 17 years and younger – 12% of the population suffer from mental disorders” (Lane full text). Are our children being properly treated or is the medication doing more damage? In Lane’s article “Labelin ..read more

Today some little shit tried to mug me.
I was walking in our local parade of shops when a 20 something idiot waved a knife in my face and suggested | hand him my wallet.
First point, I don’t normally carry a wallet as such. Second point This idiot had no idea how to hold a knife.
So third point. I took it away from him and told him to bugger off.
That’s when I heard the words that made me realise I AM old enough to be a grandfather. A little boy, about 6 years old, said from behind me “Wow! my grandpa showed me that move, but I never thought it would work till I saw you do it!”
I asked him whe ..read more

Early today I watched an old lady with a zimmer frame struggle down the footpaths to our parade of shops and press the button for the pedestrian crossing lights so she could cross the main road to the shops.
These lights stop traffic for about enough time for someone going at about a slow march pace to get across. This lady was a lot slower and was never going to make it before the lights went green for the traffic again, but to my surprise, and I suspect hers, six lads rushed out of builders vans and took up position three on each side of her, as she slowly made her way across and effectively ..read more
