Outdoor Kitchen Plans – Chris Loves Julia

When we started to plan our outdoor kitchen, we had a lot of discussions about how hard we wanted to go on it. We now live in a climate that begs for us to be outside almost year round, and I wanted to create a space I’d not only want to cook in, but that I’d be able to cook in, regardless of what’s on the menu. Outdoor Kitchen in Idaho You may remember when we built our own outdoor kitchen in our first home in Idaho, pictured above. Jules and I designed it from the ground up – secured footers on the deck; planned and built the framing with noncombustible framing materials (first time ..read more

How to Update an Old Cutting Board
Utile's Blog

I’ve shared this cutting board revival hack on my Instagram, but I felt like a hack this good deserved a place to live on the blog. That way you can keep coming back to it again and again! Every time I go to an antique or a thrift store I feel like I see so many used wood cutting boards. And while they make such great decor pieces, I really wanted to find a way to bring them back to life and make them useful. I got mine for $4.50 from the antique store, which is a steal compared to buying a new one. But, the only “issue” with finding things previously used is that you never know where they ..read more

Slow Decorating in Our Bedroom

Since painting our bedroom dark brown, we’ve been taking our time in here. If I’m being honest, I’ve been in a bit of a creative lull. Which is a scary place to be as a content creator. Just like writers get writer’s block, I think every creative gets creative block and I’ve been trying to push through, but I’ve come to realize it’s probably not the best idea. We’ve had a whirlwind of projects happening all around us and I’m in desperate need of some creative down time. Every day design decisions need to be made and I think I’ve been experiencing a bit of decision fatigue. Rather than forcing ..read more

Tips for Replacing a Brick Paver Patio

This brick paver patio can be easily repaired — or it can be the construction site of a patio upgrade. Homeowners have plenty of options to create their own backyard paradise. A traditional concrete patio or wooden deck is simple and functional, or you can show off your style with something like a brick paver patio. But styles and trends change as the years go by, and nothing lasts forever. That’s the concern for Vic, who lives in a 1970s home in Hickory, North Carolina. He says, “I have an aging brick paver patio, roughly 9 feet by 20 feet — there are some loose bricks and separating bri ..read more

Our Roman Clay Kitchen Hood

Our kitchen hood is installed and the Roman Clay is finished and it looks SO GOOD! I just love the way it turned out so much. And yes, the back wall behind it is still blank, but I’m taking my time to figure out exactly what I want to do there. I don’t want to rush it. Anyway, back to the hood. We got it from Hoodsly. I loved a lot of things about working with Hoodsly, but the fact that the customization level was endless really was the icing on the cake. They have so many different options: curved, straight, strapping, molding, etc. And once you make your shape selection you can move forwar ..read more
