Right-wing populism, left-wing populism; how do they differ? Why is populism different when it's meant to appeal to the people, and why has democracy been associated with leftism?

So I live in (Republican-led) Missouri, and as of late, I'm getting all kinds of ads on YouTube featuring either Donald Trump or his son asking for donations. Is this a common tactic that politicians use to raise money? To be clear, I'm still figuring out my own political standing, so I don't necessarily have anything against our former president; I'm just curious as to why I'm receiving the same three ads and if others (who live in democratic or divided states) are getting these specific ones too.

Hello, I am looking to possibly work in intelligence or with 3 letter agencies. I speak fluent Russian and English, and heard you are practically a shoe in if you know a strategic language and have a high GPA in a major that isn't completely useless.
The problem is that I have done drugs in the past. I did mushrooms and weed, those were the most hard things that I ever did. Does this mean I am forever screwed from getting in? I don't want to rely on finding a job in this sector while in college and then graduate and find out that I can't get in because of this, and then turn out jobless aft ..read more

Hey all!
Obvious throwaway is obvious, but I didn't want to doxx myself on main. I would greatly appreciate feedback on my profile and my application strategy, and any areas of concern that I should address in my application. I'm concerned that my list might be unrealistic and that I should hedge my bets more. I appreciate any advice and caveats you can provide.
Programs I am applying for (all doctoral): Harvard, Stanford (Knight-Hennessy as well), Princeton (Also applying to predoctoral program), University of Michigan, UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, Columbia, MIT, Duke, Penn State, Yale, UCLA ..read more

I have been out of school for 3 years now and have decided that I want to do a PhD with a focus on international political economy.
I went to a top undergrad and have a high gpa overall, but I didn't major in polisci or a social science. My major was history-related. I didn't do a thesis but did a research seminar (doubt that matters much since it was qualitative).
I also don't have super close ties with any of the professors from undergrad, in part due to COVID and being a transfer. I only spent about 1.5 years in person at the uni I graduated from.
I did receive a decent-sized book grant (5 ..read more

Many constitutional rights are very vague and are left to judicial interpretation. But is this the only way ? Is there a way to balance this ?
France has a constitutional council system instead of a supreme court system for example to adjucate constitutional issues

Listening to the “Civics 101” podcast on funding for civic education in the states, I would like to look into civic education/data in Canada.

Hi there,
I'm about to sign up for my undergraduate thesis this semester and already produced exposé for my supervisors and mentors. My sessions with them are limited and I don't want to be embarrassed that I am still finalizing my research design. Research design is also something that I am kinda struggling with although my grades say otherwise, I don't know how that happens. Short outline of my research intent:
Title: Polarized America and its overseas attitudes
Question(s): How is the international system responding to political polarization in the United States? To what extent is this ..read more

Hey guys, I currently find myself going towards the end of my bachelor's degree in political science and public law. I found a great master programme for European Studies at a Brussels' university.
My goal is to work in government/public affairs after my studies and I do think that the master degree is a good fit. During my bachelor, I already did three iternships of which I consider two being in relatively competetive institutions. Right now, I am considering doing another one. However, due to my minor and Germany's horrible grading system for law studies, I will not receive the best bachelo ..read more
