Here is the article: https://www.cartoonbrew.com/artist-rights/dneg-to-lay-off-hundreds-of-vfx-workers-241052.html
Outside of DNEG and ReDefine, my friends from MPC Bangalore also got layoff and mentioned that is also happening in the UK and Montreal studios
Ghost apparently is planing to laying off people in the UK (seems they only have a skeleton crew), outside of laying off the entire team in Pune
I feel with this layoffs it puts in perspective everything. I wish I was asked about reducing for a period of time my salary vs what I am earning today in deliveries to keep my family afloat. May ..read more

They are looking to stamp out organizations that fail to pay wages, penalize employees for taking pregnancy or parental leave, and have unequal pay for equal work."
Unequl pay for equal work --> Can this point effect vfx companies as its a common practice in our industry.

This may be a bit of an odd post for this subreddit. My partner applied to a program at Lost boys/Campus d'Effets Visuels/Campus VFX. They reached out a few days after via email using a gmail account. Within 3 days of email exchange, they offered her admission and sent a Paypal account and bank transfer details for the deposit.
I was slightly sketched out by the gmail account and the fact that they were using gmail. I don't know much about how these schools operate, but have other people's experiences been the same?

Hey everyone, just wanted to share a quick 30-second video showcasing some of the 2.5D animations created using my new open source tool, Parallax Maker v1.0. It transforms static images into 3D scenes by automating the creation of depth maps, mask based segmentation and 3D scene export in glTF2.
What you’ll see in the short:
A series of animations from various examples made with the tool.
Fun demo of how AI can help with the conversion from static images to animated visuals.
For more details or a deeper dive into how it works:
Check out the full tutorial on my YouTube channel.

I'm pretty new to the Python game but I made a couple of scripts. The scripts do a similar but slightly different action and wanted to make a shelf button that incorporates both scripts but would use the script dependant on what buttons you press before clicking. Something like:
` From Maya import cmds
Def function1(): Print "hello"
Def function2(): Print "goodbye" `
The party I am struggling on is: Click: run function1 Alt+click: run function2
Any suggestions would be much appreciated... If this is possible... I've done it through making a window with buttons in but I wanted it to be more co ..read more

Does anybody know of or have any advice to make a believable rasengan? A few of the ones I've watch seem really unbelievable like they don't fit in the scene. It may be that they didn't light it well when they did it, I don't know.

Hi! I'm fairly new to this world, I'm working full-time in a french 3d motion design studio since january (cinema 4d x after effects mosty), it's my first job, I would like to go towards the film industry in the future. I have to say the atmosphere on the sub is quite depressing for a newcomer like me, and I was wondering specifically what we mean by the ‘VFX industry.’ Does it mainly involve special effects for films and TV shows? And does the current crisis primarily affect this sector, or does it impact all aspects of visual creation, from films to motion design for advertisements? Is this ..read more

I’ll try to cut short, I am a second year animations and vfx student and as I was getting into more complex way of rigging I wanted to learn Ziva to get better simulations but I heard that now the license has been bought by Dneg. Is there any way of me learning it somewhere else? Is it even worth it?
If not, should I study how to create a similar simulations using maya or Houdini?
I wanted my final showreel to stand up adding some walking animal cycle made with that but I guess I am a bit late.
