We’re honored to share this guest post by foster and adoptive mother Jamie C. Finn from Foster the Family. Dear Mother, Happy Mother’s Day. It’s there in the greeting: Happy. The description of how you’re “meant” to feel, what this day “should” be. But maybe, for you, this day isn’t only just happy. This thing that we do is beautiful and broken, joy-filled and heartbreaking. It can feel like work and like calling. It can seem deeply meaningful and like “What’s even the point?” Being a foster or adoptive mother is ever, always more than one thing at once. Which means this “happy” day of cel ..read more

As a child, Tae* was left alone without food or protection. He was raised in South Korea by a single mother who lived promiscuously and was rarely home. In middle school, Tae took it upon himself to find a job to provide for his needs. By high school, he was placed in a small orphanage where he was provided for. After graduating from the orphanage when he was 18 years old, Tae began experiencing bothersome symptoms. His doctor discovered a growth in his eye and sent him to the hospital with instructions to have it tested for cancer immediately. Sadly, at the hospital, Tae was told he couldn ..read more

Possum Trot is a brutal but beautiful story that single-handedly demonstrates how one person, one family, or one church that says, “Yes!” can turn the world of foster care and adoption upside down. Here are 5 things to know about the movie: 1. It’s based on a true story. The movi ..read more

Countless children are waiting to be adopted. Here at Lifesong, we believe every child deserves the love of a family, so we offer adoption financial assistance in the form of adoption grants and loans because we believe money should never be the reason a child doesn’t have a family. For us, adoption financial assistance isn’t simply about providing financial support; it’s about affirming the inherent worth of every child and the sacred nature of every family’s journey to bring them home. Recently, we heard from Aaron and Jennifer, Lifesong matching grant recipients. Here’s their story— “We ..read more

When Juan* and Jasiel* were young, their parents passed away from HIV. Juan was just 3 years old as they repeatedly moved from one orphan-care facility to another. Eventually, the brothers were welcomed into the loving care of our team in Bolivia at Fundación Esperanza. As soon as they arrived, our team advocated for them to stay together as siblings. They could have been separated into different foster institutions, but our team refused to let this happen. When Prija* was 4 years old, her father worked 14-hour shifts every day in a factory.
