Home was not a happy place for 17-year-old Diana. Her mom always tried to do her best to raise her on her own. But things were very difficult, and life had begun to take its toll on Diana’s mental health. A friend started noticing that Diana had become increasingly withdrawn and isolated. She had stopped communicating with her peers and had slipped into depression. But in all of this, God was working behind the scenes. Diana’s friend was part of our Orphan’s Promise training center in Vinnytsia, Ukraine, and had been attending some classes. She thought the welcoming environment would hel ..read more

Twelve-year-old Daniil grew up in a broken home where it was difficult to make ends meet. His father left before he was born, and although his mom worked whatever jobs she could find to provide for Daniil and his sister, there were many days when they went without. Their home was in terrible disrepair, lacking water and a sewage system. Sadly, they didn’t have the finances to even consider any kind of renovation. When his mother brought Daniil and his sister to our Orphan’s Promise center in Kyrgyzstan four years ago, the family was in dire need of food and clothing. When Daniil found ou ..read more

The war in Ukraine may have slipped further down the running order of our news channels or been relegated to the inside pages of the newspaper, but it is far from over. Not only does the fighting continue, but the effects of this conflict will be felt across Europe and beyond for some considerable time to come. Despite this darkness and devastation, there are pockets of light! There is still hope and God is still on the move! We believe that it’s no accident that we are placed and positioned in the region, to bring light and hope to some of the most hurting, vulnerable and broken people. It w ..read more

Denis was born into an ordinary family. He has a father and a younger sister. Unfortunately, two years ago, his mother died of cancer. After her death, his father began to drink heavily. The drunken nights would often end in violence. Denis would run away from the attacks and sleep wherever he could find a spot to lie down outside. Neighbors tried to help Denis and his sister as much as they could by offering food and comfort. Because their father was unable to care for them, the children were sent to live with their grandfather. Although it was a better environment, their grandfather struggle ..read more

Every day, Orphan’s Promise work with children and families who are caught in the cycle of poverty. Lack and struggle is part of everyday life and there can seem like there is no way out. Our heart is to take the at-risk and bring them to a place of thriving, to give them hope and opportunity of walking in a future that felt impossible. Although circumstances can thrust people suddenly into difficult times, through illness, loss of employment or war, we often find that many families have lived in lack for generations. By stepping in to disrupt the cycle, we pray that the future may be brighte ..read more

A Chance for Change Tel was just 8 months old when his father departed the home. His mother, Dao, was left to raise Tel and his elder sibling. With little support, her mental health was severely affected. There were many times when Dao felt as though she’d reached the end of herself—and at her lowest point, she even considered suicide.   Life was far from easy.   As Tel grew, it became increasingly evident that he was struggling with learning. Tel has ADHD, which led to frequent conflicts with his teachers and at home. Tel’s father was not around much, and his elder sibling fell into ..read more

Finding Hope in Education   Hibah is a twenty-nine-year-old Syrian refugee and a mother of two girls, Sabi and Rukan. She escaped the scenes of bombing, war and violence and came to settle in South of Lebanon seeking refuge and safety.   “When we reached South Lebanon, we lived in primitive conditions in informal tented settlements, and struggled to afford residency fees, rent, utilities and food.” Hibah said.  After some time living in these temporary conditions, Hibah and her girls found a house on a farm. Although now in a more solid structure, the conditions were not much be ..read more

Update from Ukraine   The war in Ukraine continues to rage. Our eyes are often in disbelief and our hearts heavy with the atrocities we see reported on our newsfeeds. Heaven only knows the things that have not yet come into the light. As we see the flow of refugees crossing borders and seeking safety, often leaving behind loved ones, I am reminded of the scripture in John 11:35 that says, “Jesus wept.” We at Orphan’s Promise, like so many of you, have shed tears over the last month and a half at what we have seen and heard. But God is still at work, friends! When the darkness seems at its ..read more
