Armholes Too Low
I Can Work With That

Hello Readers. Sometimes armholes are too big or too low and they don't cover what you want them to cover. This is a very easy thing to fix on a sleeveless shirt.   Before and after.   If I wanted to wear this pretty yellow shirt by itself I needed to fix it. There were some important bits hanging out here. I turned the shirt inside out and stitched a new shoulder seam. I pushed the ruffle out of the way and only sewed the shirt itself.    I cut off the excess fabric.    I ironed the shirt and the ruffle.   The only part of the new seam that sh ..read more

Tablecloth to Skirt
I Can Work With That

Hello Readers. I found this tablecloth at a thrift store a couple months ago. It was back in winter but I thought the colors would be perfect for spring. I also thought it would be a great refashion project. It was already a perfect circle. It would be a very easy circle skirt. Before and after. This table cloth is a perfect circle. It is also the perfect colors for Easter.  (There are ways to figure out how to cut out circle pieces from normal fabric from the fabric store. I didn't use one of those but you can Google those calculators if you need one.) I decided to go in blin ..read more

Buttondown to Feminine Blouse
I Can Work With That

Hello Readers. When I saw this shirt at a swap I thought the colors were perfect for spring and Easter. I thought it was a little boxy and I wanted it to be more feminine.  Before and after. The colors are so right but the shape is so wrong. It's OK.  First, I cut the collar off.  I also cut the front of the neckline a little lower. I folded the front on itself so I could cut both sides at the same time. This will make the new neckline symmetrical. I used my serger around the neckline to prevent fraying. You could use a zigzag stitch for this also.  I turn ..read more

Dress to Top

Hello Readers.I recently made some new bedding from clothes. The color and patterns were a fun mix but I had some scraps left over. I don't like to waste scrap fabric so I made this top from some dress leftovers. Before and after.  I cut the skirt off this dress to make a pillowcase. That left the top of the dress. Lets use that top piece.  The top had a zipper down the back and a nylon lining. Ugh! I hate nylon.  I decided to remove the lining and the zipper. It took a while to unpick the stitches but it wasn't difficult.   When I removed all the lining the n ..read more

Hello Readers. I made some new bedding from clothes and had some left over pieces. I don't like to waste fabric scraps so let me show you my new top that I made from a dress.  Before and after.  In my last post I showed the pillowcase I made from this pretty linen dress. I only used the skirt of the dress. So what did I do with the top of the dress? The first thing I did was remove the lining by unpicking it stitch by stitch. I hate nylon. It is so hot and sweaty. I don't need this lining for my new top.  I threw the lining away. I couldn't think of a use for this f ..read more

Repurposing Fabric; Clothes to Bedding
I Can Work With That

Hello Readers. Sometimes we get stuck on what things are supposed to be and we miss what they could be. I needed and wanted some new bedding but what I had was clothing. I never would have thought to use the clothes to make bedding until I noticed the colors matched so well. But fabric is fabric so, let's repurpose a few items of clothing to make some fun bedding. Before and after some easy sewing. I found this duvet cover at a swap and loved the colors and the fun stripes. I really didn't have any pillow cases to go with it. I thought I would work on that later.   I didn't hav ..read more

A Shamrock Wrap Shirt

Hello Readers. St. Patrick's Day is coming and I am mostly Irish so want to be ready. I came across some shamrock fabric at the thrift store and I knew it would be perfect for a this time of year.  Happy St. Patrick's Day! I have made one of these wrap shirts before. At it's simplest a wrap shirt is just a square with a head hole in the middle.  For this wrap shirt I made larger sleeves that will be wider and more full. That is why the sleeves are wider than the waist here.  Here is a better look at the shape of the shirt. That is the head hole in the middle. I th ..read more

A Buttondown Shirt Refashion

Hello Readers. St. Patrick's Day is coming soon. I hope you have some green to wear. It's good luck! I wanted this button down to be short sleeves so I got to work.  Before and after. This green plaid shirt was fine but I had an idea.  I cut the sides of the shirt and that also removed the sleeves.  I made new arm holes.  I also cut it shorter and hemmed it. I was in mood for a summer top. I thought this would be a great top for spring and summer. Then I took one sleeve and cut it open so it would lay flat. Why? It is going in the front of the shirt. Low-rise Pants to Cargo Skirt
I Can Work With That

Hello Readers. Can pants become a skirt? Yes, let me show you how I did it.    Before and after.   These are not flattering and the clasp in the front is broken. The fabric was very nice linen and I thought I could make a fun cargo style skirt. I could connect the legs to make a skirt and use some of the extra fabric to add some large pockets.  I needed to fix this part of the waistband. It looks like someone tried to fix this but it didn't work.  I used a zigzag stitch to sew the 2 sides together. I sewed horizontally as well as vertically to make this re ..read more

Patching Distressed Denim
I Can Work With That

Hello Readers. I have always liked distressed denim. It just seems relaxed and there isn't any pressure or stress about it being perfect. It's a little messy. It's casual and fun. Before and after. This skirt was cute but it was meant to be low in the waist. I wanted to raise the waist but that means the distressing will be up on my thigh and I wasn't comfortable with that open hole so high on my leg. I wanted to patch the hole from the inside with this fabric I had in my stash. It had little green sneakers all over it and I just thought it was cute.  I cut off the long white t ..read more
