Crassula is the largest genus in the family [Ed: Crassulaceae], containing everything from bog plants to some of the most extreme succulents. Many Crassula species have been naturalized and are commonly seen as garden plants in Southern California. These include C. arborescens, C. falcata, C. perforata. Many hybrids and cultivars are available, offering a large variety of colors and shapes. One of the best is Morgan’s Beauty. Some favorite species include: Crassula arta [Ed: synonym for Crassula deceptor] which makes columns of close packed tria ..read more

Dudleya is a genus of succulent perennials, consisting of about 45 species in southwest North America and northern Mexico. Only a handful are common in cultivation and many are on the endangered species list. A few can only be found on some of the islands off the California coast.
At one time Dudleyas were included in the Echeveria genus, and one can certainly see why as some species are a bit hard to tell from Echeverias. All Dudleyas are rosette-forming succulents, like the Echeverias, and many are similarly colored. Most Dudleyas are silvery grey, have very del ..read more

Echinocereus is a genus that is much loved by cactus growers world-wide. There are several characteristics that collectively account for their popularity. All Echinocereus are small plants that are quite suitable for growing in pots and greenhouses.
The stems of this genus are more often than not under a foot in height and perhaps 2 or 3 inches in diameter. Some are slightly bigger, some smaller. In the wild, some species may form large mounds of many hundreds of stems, but this takes many years and these same species are still quite manageable in cultivation.
