I used to coach older players 16-18yo and it was relatively easy. But the kids!!! I usually do some individual stuff with a ball. They train on turf but play on grass. Then 2v2 to goal or 1v1. But want to get some ideas of warmup activities. submitted by /u/BurnsyK16 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Teaching 3 year olds to get control of the ball

Hi - this is my first year coaching and I’m coaching my son’s 3 year old team. I try to teach the kids stuff and keep them active but it’s often herding cats. One skill I cannot figure out how to teach them is taking the ball from another player. I think they’re too young to do sharks and minnows, and I’m at a loss. When we scrimmage, there is one kid who plays with his older sibling and is awesome, but the other kids are clueless, and at this age, sometimes the kids cry when someone steals the ball from them. Is there a fun way to teach this skill? submitted by /u/Ok_Doubt5406 [visit reddit ..read more

Should I be upset

I coach U6 on the rec level. On one of the other teams, there is a player that the director(his relative) said needed to be moved to u8 because of his skill level. I think this was the right call because he is stronger and faster and more skilled than the other players (he just turned 6). So he was moved up. However, he is still being allowed to play on the u6 team he was originally assigned to. Is this right/legal to be able to play in both divisions? Should I be upset about it, or am I overthinking it? Side note: our league combined the u4 kids into u6 to make the numbers work for 4 teams ..read more

Hello! I am teaching an 8U soccer for this spring, my daughter is on the team and they were going to cancel the season due to lack of coaches unless I stepped in... so here we are. I've been practicing with the kids for 3 weeks now, 2 matches in. Trying to focus on the kids having fun, and working on some of the fundamentals. I do not have a soccer background, I played when I was like 6 and haven't played since. During our last game I noticed two things that really hold the team back - Grouping on the ball. They swarm the ball and end up trying to kick the ball from their teammates, leaving n ..read more

Hey everyone, I'm currently a coach for a semi-professional football club based in Austria, and we're in the process of enhancing our video analysis capabilities. Currently, we're using drones for our video analysis, but we're looking to upgrade and streamline our process. Given the plethora of options available on the market, we're reaching out to the community for recommendations and advice. Our budget for this upgrade is rather limited, so we're particularly interested in cost-effective solutions that can be used for both home and away games. We're seeking recommendations for both hardware ..read more

Hi coaches, looking to see if anyone has any suggestions. I have a player on my team who only speaks Spanish, literally not a word of English. At first she had a translator and it went well but the last two weeks she has not. The player walked off our game in frustration because she couldn’t understand directions from the ref at one point. (Never considered letting the ref know, I will moving forward) In practices I use google translate, motion with my hands, use others to demonstrate and we’ve been able to get by. Games are the struggle. I have no assistant coaches so I don’t really have tim ..read more

Match Ball or Some other Player of the Match Ideas

I coach U8 girls and with our games starting soon, I want to hand out a match ball or Player of the Game type award. I’ll be making sure each player gets the recognition over the course of the season. Also, I make sure to praise each individual for something they did well in the game. Any ideas for something to hand out other than a ball? A couple seasons ago, I had a life size 3d printed replica World Cup trophy and gave it to a player each week to take home. I had all the kids sign it at the end of the season and was a cool token for me, but my wife threw it away… submitted by /u/mustard_t ..read more

First season as middle school head coach my team is missing the postseason due to the worst circumstances.

Only the top two teams from our district make it through to the postseason tournament. I have a strong squad and we've only lost one game this season due to both starting CBs being injured and unavailable that game. We are at the end of the regular season and currently sitting in a 3-way tie for first place in our district. There is Team A, Team B, and Us. We beat Team B, who beat Team A, who beat Us. Since head-to-head cannot separate us, it comes down to goal differential. This has Team A, who has a substantial lead in GD, and Team B going through because although we beat Team B, they have ..read more
