“CSI: Vegas” Has Been Euthanized, Thankfully

“CSI: Vegas” held so much promise. It has “Vegas” right in the title. The reality is “CSI: Vegas” didn’t have much Las Vegas at all, and even less scriptwriting. In a word, it was unwatchable. “CSI: Vegas” has been canceled, thankfully, after an excruciating three seasons. The final episode airs May 17, 2024. “CSI: Vegas” fell shy of the number of episodes needed for syndication. So, there is a god, after all. Because we are a Las Vegas blog, we had to watch the first few episodes of “CSI: Las Vegas.” We would compare the experience to having our eyes pried open, like in “Clockwork Orange,” wh ..read more

Rumor: Days Are Numbered for “Ka” at MGM Grand
Vital Vegas Blog | Las Vegas blog for news, tips and WTF.

We’ve been hearing chatter for weeks that “Ka,” from Cirque du Soleil, is closing at MGM Grand. Now, we’ve also heard Guy Laliberte, co-founder of Cirque du Soleil, is sharing privately “Ka” will be shuttered. Laliberte is no longer involved with Cirque, but he knows people. Also, it’s a well-known fact Canadians never lie. The grapevine doesn’t always get it right, but Cirque is trimming the fat in Vegas, and “Ka” looks to be next on the chopping block. Here’s the plot of “Ka” in a single sentence: Good luck with that, it’s Cirque. We shared a passive-aggressive Tweet about “Ka” a couple of w ..read more

Rumor: Holsteins to Close at Cosmopolitan
Vital Vegas Blog | Las Vegas blog for news, tips and WTF.

A popular burger restaurant at Cosmopolitan, Holsteins, is set to close, according to a source. We probably should’ve put “popular” in quotation marks, because popular (and financially successful) restaurants don’t close in Las Vegas. The space will reportedly be taken over by Clique Hospitality, but no new concept has been announced yet. When it comes to Las Vegs restaurants, it’s a cow-eat-cow world. MGM Resorts now operates Cosmopolitan. It seems like MGM’s move into Cosmo was recent, but the sale was announced in 2021, if you can believe that. The deal was finalized in May 2022, and the re ..read more

Rumor: Blackstone to Acquire Elaine Wynn’s Stake in Wynn Resorts
Vital Vegas Blog | Las Vegas blog for news, tips and WTF.

Opening paragraphs are usually packed with critical information, conveyed in a clear and concise manner, about news that could impact people. This isn’t that. Here, we’re asking a simple question: How boring would Las Vegas be without us? This paragraph isn’t any better. Sorry, financial guys in New York. It’s not always about you. This paragraph’s a little more like traditional journalism, despite our best efforts: A source who wishes to remain anonymous claims Blackstone is buying the stocks of the biggest shareholder of Wynn Resorts, Elaine Wynn. That’s a 9% stake. Translation: That’s a met ..read more

Confirmed: President of Wynn and Encore Steps Down

Are changes in casino executive ranks the most interesting part of Las Vegas? No. Is it a chance for us to break news and brag about it? Absolutely. Do you know this blog at all? Wynn Resorts confirms Steve Weitman, President of Wynn and Encore, is stepping down on June 10, 2024. We’ve got all the tea, and possibly some herbal infusions. It’s Wynn, after all. We asked A.I. to show us Wynn Las Vegas in the future. Nailed it. This is the part where we share our initial scoop, mostly to embarrass the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Steve Weitman, President of Wynn Las Vegas and Encore, has resigned af ..read more

Aria’s Food Hall is Getting Parm Famous Italian

There are few words more magical than “parm,” so we are excited to share this restaurant news. In fact, it’s the most excited we’ve been since there was a wardrobe malfunction in “Fantasy.” That wasn’t the exciting part. The exciting part was the realization it wasn’t a costume malfunction! The wardrobe just comes off, every night. It’s part of the show. Anyway, Aria’s Proper Eats Food Hall is getting a new stall, Parm Famous Italian, and it sounds flipping amazing. Never judge food by the white balance. Also, hold the foliage, thanks. Let’s get the awkward part out of the way right up front ..read more

“Civil War” Scams Vegas Fans With Deceptive Poster
Vital Vegas Blog | Las Vegas blog for news, tips and WTF.

We are a huge fan of A.I. images, and use them frequently in this blog, especially when we’re bored. A new film, however, has shown the perils of using A.I. irresponsibly. “Civil War” used A.I. to generate “posters” for the film, but none of the scenes depicted (including one featuring Las Vegas in ruins) are in the movie. In other words, the producers are straight-up committing fraud. Somebody involved with marketing “Civil War” dropped the ball. Our issue with the images promoting “Civil War” isn’t that they’re A.I. It’s that they mislead audiences. If you use an image of a pulverized Las Ve ..read more

Confirmed: Long-Struggling NoMad Brand is Done at Park MGM
Vital Vegas Blog | Las Vegas blog for news, tips and WTF.

The NoMad brand is out at Park MGM following the acquisition of controlling interest in NoMad’s owner, Sydell Group, by hotel whale Hilton. A news release says, “NoMad Las Vegas is excluded from the transaction and will rebrand to a new flag in the coming months.” A “flag” is an industry term for “brand.” Marriott, Best Western and Hyatt are all flags. Hilton expects to expand the NoMad brand, which we take to mean “make it even more boring.” Monte Carlo was reblanded to Park MGM in 2018. No, that is not a typo. Why was NoMad Las Vegas not included in the deal if Hilton is expanding the NoMad ..read more

Confirmed: Bob Marley Show and Attraction Set for Mandalay Bay

When we first shared news Mandalay Bay was getting a Bob Marley-inspired experience, the sense of underwhelm was palpable. All due respect to the memory of Bob Marley, but he passed away more than four decades ago. Now, our scoop has been confirmed, our favorite phrase in the English language. Bob Marley Hope Road opens in late 2024. Due to inflation, they considered calling it “Hope Lane,” but cooler heads prevailed. Look, it’s not that we need to make everything about us. We don’t need to brag about every scoop or endlessly talk up the excellence of our sources. We can all move on if everyon ..read more

“New” Paris Hotel Tower is Getting Balconies
Vital Vegas Blog | Las Vegas blog for news, tips and WTF.

One of the hotel towers at the former Bally’s is getting an overhaul and will be integrated into Paris Las Vegas. One of the enhancements will be balconies, and they’re already being built. Balconies in Las Vegas hotels are largely a thing of the past, thanks to gravity. Don’t make it awkward, that’s our job. When these newly-balconied rooms open at Paris, they are going to make bank. The new Paris tower will definitely be kiki-friendly, assuming people still use that term. The switch of the Jubilee tower (Bally’s, now Horseshoe) to the Versailles tower (Paris) is taking its sweet time, especi ..read more
