Every single day it's gotten better. Every single day I say 'this is my favorite thing so far'.
Today we spent the morning 4x4ing to the Vatnajökull Glacier and hiking to an ice cave. Definitely one of the most amazing experiences. It's mesmerizing looking through the layers of ice. So blue.

(my computer died - finally back finishing the Iceland adventure posts)
Day 3 - We headed east down the coast. Stopped at a couple waterfalls. In better weather, you can walk behind Seljalandsfoss - it was too icy and closed this morning.
Skogafoss
Stopped at Reynisfjara, black sand beach. People die here every year. Sneaker waves.
These are trolls - the sun came up and turned them into stone.
Next stop, Vik, for lunch. Iceland's best burger according to Baddi, our guide. Then a little off roading, through a river, to the yoda cave ..read more

Fun fact - Juneau is the only US capital with no roads going in or out of town. You have to fly in or boat in. We drove to the end of the road, just to see it. It just dead ends ;)
We also visited University of Alaska Southeast... it's on Auke Lake, and has a marine biology program... hmmm???? Piper liked it.
The next day, we took an all day cruise to Tracy Arm Fjord to see South Sawyer Glacier. It's about 31 miles long. It's constantly calving leaving chunks of ice floating around in the fjord and out into the ocean. Some of them are still pretty massive as they melt. And really ..read more

Took a random trip to Juneau last week. Got a cheap flight deal sent to my inbox. Couldn't pass it up ;) A lot was still closed due to covid and no cruise tourists, and it was almost impossible to find a car rental (we rented one for one day for $400!!!), but there was still plenty to see and do.
It was beautiful!! The weather was perfect and the mountains smelled so good. Yeah, we have great mountains in Utah, but ours aren't surrounded by glaciers!
We took the Roberts Tram up the mountain and did some hiking. Mid hike, we came across a couple hikers who were obviously in distress. We asked i ..read more

Piper and I spent a quick weekend getaway in the Pacific Northwest. I don't know why I don't live there and/or own a sailboat.
Quick flight to Seattle, a short drive north, hop on the ferry, and we're there!
Ferry vibes.
We discovered a couple of new beaches, and visited a couple oldies but goodies. The driftwood is so beautiful.
Piper went to 'touch' the water and somehow ended up with soaking wet feet ;)
Friday Harbor - Peniel (the boat we sailed on)
Mt Baker in the distance.
Sails up!
