My mom is currently in hospital on oxygen following her first COPD exacerbation. She is almost 65, was diagnosed with mild COPD roughly 10 years ago when she was a smoker. She quit smoking after the diagnosis and has been on and off inhalers over the years (so not continually treating her COPD). I had no idea she had COPD as she never told me. Her recent exacerbation seems to have been caused by a viral infection. She also had a bad case of Covid around Christmas and has been coughing frequently ever since. I’m really worried about her future and life expectancy and what is going to happen ne ..read more

I’ve been in the cement industry for almost 20yrs and have been exposed to cement dust, limestone dust etc. knock on wood I’ve never had any bad signs up until now and I’m still not sure if what I’m experiencing is an early sign of just my paranoia. Recently I’ve come down with what I hope is just allergy symptoms, I’ve never had allergies to anything my entire life previously. But I often get sore throats, sneezing, coughing, slight headache, difficulty breathing when trying to sleep. I started taking allergy medicine daily which helps but I’m afraid doing so might be detrimental because it ..read more

My mother was diagnosed with final stages COPD last year, doctor said it was the worst case he had seen with someone being admitted not already on oxygen. I've been looking into alternative supplements and vitamins that she could take a long with her prescribed medication and was wondering if anyone had any experience with taking cortisep mushrooms, turkey tail or lion's mane. Again this is not to substitute but just to add to her already prescribed medication. Thank you for any insight.? submitted by /u/kit_olly_sixsmith [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi all, For background I’m 28M with an obstructive lung disease (COPD, asthma or ACOS), 0.7 FEV/FVC without reversibility. It started pretty suddenly about 9 months ago as inflammation of the trachea, then gradually affected the lungs. The other day I had little or no phlegm, but tried to force it up from my lungs/trachea by coughing and throat clearing over 1-2 days. Big mistake - now my PEF has dropped and my lungs (and trachea) feel really congested and inflamed. I’m producing significant amounts of mucus and low on energy. I’m still very new to handling these things. But 2 days later brea ..read more

I am 24. I had COVID in 2020, and because of it, I have chronic bronchitis, fibrotic changes, and scarring in my lungs. I didn't have any prior illnesses or lung conditions. My usual oxygen level is 88–90 (without oxygen). however, it goes down to 75-83/85 during physical activities. I have been on oxygen for the last 2.5 years. At first, I was severely underweight, and I still am to a certain degree. I don't require oxygen support all the time, however. My oxygen level goes down during physical activities. My heart rate and breathlessness increase; I cannot walk too much; I get breathless an ..read more

How frequently do Stage 3-4 COPD folks get a PFT done to assess current state of health?

I've been diagnosed with stage 3 COPD (38%) and undergoing pulmonary rehab therapy. Since results of PFT was key to help identify the stage of COPD, Do people in stage 3-4 undergo PFT on a periodic basis- like every 6 months or annually to assess the current state of health? My doctor scared me a lot regarding life expectancy- so i am also curious- for folks that unfortunately dont make it.. is it a painful case of breathlesness that impacts them or is it a trigger event for other associated conditions like cardiac arrest etc.? thanks and apologies if it hurts anyone submitted by /u/peak2 [v ..read more
