Hi,
I have recently started going to a mma class twice a week for around 3-4 weeks. There are 4-5 guys in the class apart from me who have been there much longer. Compared to them, I am extremely clumsy and I feel a bit intimidated. I am just looking for some reassurance, it gets better, right? How do I get better wrt footwork? Is it too late to start MMA at 25? Any general advice/tips you would have?

Thought this could be a fun spot to learn from each other's past mistakes, and ask questions for anyone who maybe didn't realize a certain thing was a scam or not true.
I'll keep "scam" broadly defined - anything that's a waste of money given the cost or not evidence based (backed by science). Myth is anything that's just not true as a whole.
I'll start
Scam: I went down the supplement road and was taking like 5 different supplements for skin and workouts (including pre workouts). Literally only creatine and protein are helpful, and science based, in my situation. So much wasted money!

TLDR: Female, scared to gain weight but hate l looking so muscular
I’m a female who enjoys going to the gym - probably 1-2 hours a day, and am fairly toned. I’m fairly slim, a bit below healthy range, but happy enough with my weight. However I really don’t like my body. I feel like I look way too muscular, especially my arms, I just think it looks too much. But I don’t want to workout less, i just want to make my body look less defined as it’s just too much. Will gaining a bit of weight help with that, or will it just make me look worse/bulky? I feel so self conscious when wearing short sleev ..read more

Hi all! I, 18/F have recently started going to the gym. I generally do a lot of cardio. Something I’ve come to observe is my left arm pains a lot while I run but not during other cardio activities. Walking, brisk walking, cycling, everything is fine. The moment I increase my running speed, my left shoulder and upper arm tend to pain a lot. Has anyone else experienced this? Kinda sucks because I really love running.

I love cardio and do it regularly, but want to up my game in resistance, strength training, and muscle gains.
I’m overwhelmed because whenever I research possible schedules online, I’m flooded with “bro science”, conflicting opinions, and content about muscle groups that I don’t really care about right now (back, biceps, chest, shoulders).
THESE are the areas I want to target: Glutes Triceps Quads Abs
Ideally, I want to do glutes every other day. Would love some suggestions and possible rotations.
I know I need rest days for muscle growth but can’t seem to come up with a daily schedule/rotati ..read more

Would love to make some serious strength gains! But over the last couple of years of ~attempting~ to be consistent and make progress, I've repeatedly tweaked various tweakables and have to back off of whatever exercise did the fuckulating. I work out 2-3x/week, usually just eat clean, intuitive, high protein to maintain. Have been aiming to build muscle/recomp for aesthetics, and for health I aim to create some stability for my floppy hypermobile body. Plus all the other wonderful health and brain reasons we do this (too body-tired to be anxious! Strong oldbones!) Am I doomed to keep it relat ..read more

Just joined a new small business gym and got a new personal trainer. The plan is to work with the PT once a week and then I’m in a group pilates class twice a week.
I have had two other personal trainers and different stages in my life and really liked them both. My last one was awesome but closed shop and stopped training in January, so it forced me to find a new place/ trainer. This new gym I found has great facilities, a relaxed spa like vibe that I enjoy and is just 8 minutes from my house. It seems perfect for me.
I met and had my first training session with a trainer last night and whil ..read more
