Disclaimer: The following review of the Canon EOS R6 mirrorless camera and Canon EOS RF 600mm F11/800mm F11 compact, super telephoto lenses is not a technical review, it is a hands-on “here’s how it feels, shoots and performs” kind of review with lots of sample images. I am sponsored by Canon and am a Canon Ambassador, so I was fortunate enough to get to field test the R6 with the RF 600 and RF 800 telephotos for a day in mid-June 2020. This review is based on those field tests, which were more me taking the gear and using it in real wildlife photography situations than actually doing any ki ..read more

It was legendary. It was The Boss vs Split Lip, the two largest, toughest and most famous grizzly bears in Banff National Park, in an encounter that thrilled me to my very core. It was easily one of the greatest wildlife viewing encounters of my life, which, when you consider I’ve photographed wolverines, cougars, grizzlies and other beasts for almost thirty years, should tell you all you need to know about what’s to come. But first, some background: I don’t usually search out Banff’s two biggest bears, but living here for the past twenty-nine years, I’ve been fortunate enough to have had a ..read more

The wolverine fundraiser I ran last month to raise money for Mirjam Barrueto’s wolverine research here in the Canadian Rockies and Columbia Mountains was a huge success: we raised $54,000 and the University of Calgary matched $34,000 of that. Plus, an anonymous private donour chipped to bring the total raised to a whopping $107,000, easily funding this year of Mirjam’s study and much of next year, too! Thank you so much to all of you that donated. A wolverine track in the Canadian Rockies I’m off to the Yukon now for a month of chasing beasts, so wish me luck! Maybe there’s another wolverine i ..read more
