I live in a high income area and charge $15 an hour to babysit one kid. I have recently raised my rates up to $18 an hour but have not told a certain family I watch yet since I havnt watched the baby since I raised my rates. This is a baby who’s 8months who cries a ton and the parents want me to watch him for a night. He wakes up a lot in the night. I have never watched him overnight and the Mom just asked me to watch him so the parents can “get some sleep”. How much do I charge to watch him over night?? submitted by /u/Big_Truck_7298 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

New mom Q!

Hi! I’m a very new mom, so I have a question and I was wondering if this is normal. I recently hired a part time babysitter. I have a TV job, so she comes to the set and watches my child there. I want to say I still am helping with my baby while I’m working. I make all bottles and change all diapers. Today before she arrived, I received a text asking for $5 more an hour. Which I’m fine to do, but we’re very early on so a raise is kinda questionable, but I’m still fine to do it & I agreed. My question is should I be giving her the bottle/diaper responsibilities? Should I not have agreed to ..read more

Should I get paid for spring break?

Hi everyone, I was told i'd have the week of spring break off, so I went ahead and booked a flight to stay with a friend for a week. Then about a week later they ask me if I can do part-time sitting that week and I had to say no, I made plans. Should I still get paid for that week off? Typically they'll pay me if they take time off, but because after they said that, they asked for part-time sitting, I'm not sure if I should get paid. Thoughts? submitted by /u/proletariatteen [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

hi! I am new to the area where I am going to be babysitting this summer (moving from NC to PA). I was ridiculously lowballed over my last long-term nannying gig and want to make sure that I don't do that again. - I am 25, with my own car, so I would be able to take the kid(s) out to parks, zoos, museums, etc. - I am getting my Masters in Occupational therapy in the fall, I'm CPR cert, I have been babysitting on and off for 15 years. what should my rate be for 1 kid? and the additional rate per child?? ( I've never charged per child and sometimes get really screwed over by it) Im THINKING ..read more

This is just a rant. I might be being unreasonable idk. I’m a tutor and babysitter and have been for three years. I recently found a family online looking for tutoring for their six year old girl. Their home was an hour’s drive away but I agreed because I needed the work and if it was worth it I’d be happy to commute. The first thing I see is the little girl’s older brother slap her across her face. The mother did nothing to stop this and it became clear that the little boy was the golden child—completely spoiled, know it all attitude and treating everyone around him like an idiot. The second ..read more

Hi all, This is my first time posting. I was babysitting for a family that I occasionally babysit for today and I left feeling quite triggered and upset. Just to add this family is going through a lot of personal things at the moment financially and emotionally. Theres a lot going in for them but I won’t go into it to respect them and their privacy. I got there said my hellos and caught up for a couple of minutes and then was instantly put to work which is fine I really didn’t mind I am there to do my job. I was made to brush one of the girls hair. It was so badly matted and not even just a l ..read more

Hi so I’m babysitting rn (all day) and i’m hungry and didn’t bring any food cause I was rushing out the house this morning. Anyway, would it be okay for me to order myself food? Should I text the mom and ask her if it’s okay? I mean, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be but I’ve just never thought about this. Let me know what u guys think! submitted by /u/BulkyEmployer8844 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I’ve been a professional nanny for 7 years. I’ve worked with kids of all ages but mostly infants & toddlers. Where I live is starting to get expensive and I wasn’t in a position to say no so I accepted an offer with a family and have been with them for about a month now but they have only let us leave the house 1 time & now come up with every excuse in the book as to why we can’t leave the house when I ask if we can go out. When I interviewed, I told them that the first week or two I was okay with staying at home while kiddo (15months) & parents adjusted to me. They agreed to ALL ..read more
