The following is from Mr. Basketmaker himself… The first shipment of books (which was a mixup and only 75 were delivered) arrived Wednesday, late afternoon the day before we left for the NCBA Convention. I spent that evening signing the copies for those who paid for the books and would be in North Carolina. (And maybe later we will mention the online debacle with no HotSpot connection to our phones to process credit card orders… Lynne was in full-out panic mode….) Despite that, my last class was on Sunday, and instead of having a leisurely trip back home like we usually do and maybe going out ..read more

Eric’s book has been available for pre-sales via Facebook for a few weeks now. However, for people like me, who are not on Facebook, I forgot to post here. Images are a small sampling of what’s inside. Note: This is NOT a how-to book. No basket patterns or instructions on how to make a basket. This is autobiographical with over 250 images. Think High-End ART BOOK! We created a video with Eric turning 300 pages of one of our edited PROOF samples—speeded up to just over 30 seconds… The book is Hard Cover and Eric shares his story from making his first basket as a teenager, a lengthy apprentic ..read more

Special Tree of Life Box for the Millennium

I heard that Eric threw me under the bus today on Facebook, saying I’ve neglected my blog. Can’t deny it. So here’s a post I wrote back in December and meant to post it for Christmas. In 1999, Eric wanted to make a commemorative scaled Shaker-style swallowtail box in honor of the new Millenium that was coming up. I believe he limited it to only twenty-four boxes created. It was walnut with a specially-designed scrimmed ivory disc made by D.E.L.S. of Massachusetts that was placed on top of the lid. The image is what the Shakers used for their Tree of Life. He sold all of them except for this ..read more

Eric has completed all his materials for the upcoming Association of Michigan Basketmakers Convention. I couldn’t help taking pics since everything was stacked so neatly, waiting to be boxed up. The image shows Towering Tote Jr. Basket. Here’s the basket and parts for one kit (minus the weavers). Now here’s the Towering Tote Jr.’s materials multiplied by twelve for class students… Whoever gets this Cherry wood base is very lucky! I love the grain in this one. After it’s oiled, it will look awesome… Next up is the 2-inch Round Swing Basket… Multiplied by 12! I don’t know how he does it—eve ..read more

It’s a date with Eric’s handbag basket

After each of the workshops here in McMinnville, Eric and I like to go on a “date” either at a restaurant or “take out” and eat outside on our patio. This time, we went out to the Cumberland Biscuit Co. restaurant for dinner. And I brought along Eric’s handbag basket. In addition, I’m going to share a pic of me and Eric. Yes… I’m sharing a pic of me. At the last workshop, it was brought to my attention that I never share pics of myself. So here I am! LOL… This is us posing for a selfie before we head out for dinner. (And to Susan, Lisa, Julie, Jan and Emily… no photoshop done here! LOL!!!) A ..read more

Silly me. When I posted last week that Eric had all his kits done for Michigan and could start to relax, I was wrong! Here’s Izzy sitting next to me, enjoying the awesome weather on our patio yesterday. And she’s feeling extra pretty with her new pink collar. So I went inside the workshop to see why Eric wasn’t out hanging with us. Turns out he wasn’t done with all his materials for the upcoming convention in Michigan. He still had to make molds for all the baskets and finish the weavers as well as catch up with all his orders from the last two months. Two-inch Round swing basket molds dryin ..read more

I dropped the ball! Last year, friends Susan & Lisa attended a workshop as well as Jan & Emily. They didn’t know each other prior, but they soon developed a great friendship amongst themselves. If I remember correctly, I started calling them the TP Gals because every time I came in the workshop they were talking about toilet paper! So they were mortified that I was going to post pics on the blog calling them the Toilet Paper Gals and quickly created a name for themselves: the Guts, Grits & Lipstick Ladies. But I dropped the ball! For last week’s workshop they signed up for, I call ..read more

5 Q’s Friday: Are you having a showdown?

Q: I know after every workshop I say, “Wow, this group was the best and the most fun!” But I can’t help it, these ladies were the best and the most fun, right? Eric: You say that all the time! Q: I was going through all the photos I took to upload a pic for this post. What the heck is going on here? Were you fighting with Lisa? What exactly were you two discussing? Are you yelling at students when I’m not around? BTW, I texted Lisa to see what was going on and here’s her response… So why are you pointing at her like that?? LOL! Eric: She dissed my Ford truck! I think she might be a Dodge or ..read more

I’m finally posting the images from August’s workshop. There were actually two in August so here’s the first group who we call “The Originals” since they were the first group who came to Eric’s workshop here in Tennessee. Two friends from Michigan, mom and daughter from Massachusetts and husband and wife from Wisconsin. The 3 couples didn’t know each other but they have been coming back every year, at the same time ever since. Except for last year when the country was shut down. Amy nailing her rims for the McMinnville Market basket. Ginger adding weavers to the Pandora’s box basket and Ma ..read more
