I apologize- this is a longggg post
Greetings everyone,
I wanted to share this here to both hold myself accountable but also the share my excitement about finally being able to move forward with this project. I weave tapestry, and I love the weaving traditions of the Balkans, the Black Sea, Anatolia and the Caucuses. I love Ottoman-era textiles. Rugs, saddle-bags, carpets, ornate metal-filament embroidery, woven tent panels and canopies.
My family is Romanian and Pontic Greek, and I born and raised in the US. I remember one of my aunts had this kilim - black and madder-red with beautiful ..read more

My dad and I recently took up weaving and were looking for shops in NC to handle different tools and buy supplies. Obviously there's a plethora of shops we can access online, but we're hoping to make a little road trip out of it and maybe visit a couple places. Additionally, it is nice to shop local when and where you can. We're in the Raleigh area, and I've found a couple places out in Asheville and Boone, so if anyone has any recs a bit closer (within maybe 2-3 hours, preferably) I'd appreciate it. I wouldn't mind touring a weaving/textile museum either. Thank you in advance!

I'm somewhat flummoxed by these drafts - is anyone able to point out what I'm missing? How are you supposed to achieve repeated picks when there's no indication of using tabby?

Eye-dazzlers in the Germantown yarn tradition and perhaps some more "rehabilitation" of the Whirling Log origin symbol.

I took a course on rigid heddle weaving in January and magically found a loom on marketplace for $40. It’s a 1970s Erica wooden loom in fantastic shape. I’m obsessed with weaving. These are my first three towels - no particular pattern. The turquoise/blue ones are 3-1 floating warp pattern. I used cotton and cottolin.
I feel like they’re way more absorbent than store bought and I feel satisfaction knowing I made them.

I just bought a vintage "Dhurry" Woven Afghan kit no. 37040 from Bucilla. It says it contains mesh cloth, a 5" weaving needle a blunt end tapestry needle and yard to complete the afghan. I've never done weaving on mesh cloth and I can't find any videos online and the instructions are kind of confusing, What do I do?
