Has anyone applied for and received the funding from the Tim Hortons smile cookie fundraiser? I’ve applied but never heard back I’m wondering if there is something specific I need to do or say? I’ve tried reaching out to them too but didn’t have much luck. I work for a nonprofit charity that would meet the requirements. submitted by /u/Affectionate_Cap4149 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

My nonprofit boss says that Employee Resource Groups aren't groups for employees to get resources. They're a space for employees to do more work for the organization.

Turns out, there are no actual resources for the employees. Including our retirement. #RadicalResponsibility submitted by /u/Dontbehorrib1e [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Help me figure out if this funding source is legit

Hi my tiny non profit has been introduced to a funding source and I'm trying to figure out if this is legit. We're going to ask our board and the CEO of the company for specific success stories, but I'd love to hear other opinions in this thread. The company is called Sharing the Credit... According to the website... "Sharing The Credit helps your business fund or increase your funding and support to your favorite IRS recognized charity (501c3’s), with no expense to you. We take the portion of your credit and debit card merchant fees you were paying to the bank and give it to your charity of ..read more

Remote Development Roles-Interview Advice

Is there anything specific you would recommend asking in an interview for a fully remote development role? I'm currently working an annual giving capacity for a state university. I have an interview scheduled for a Regional Development Officer position for another state university, that would be fully remote (school is about 4 hours from where I am). My current role is hybrid, in office 2-3 days a week. Is there anything you all would recommend as interview questions specific to working in a fully remote capacity? I already plan to ask about expectations regarding how often I would need to be ..read more

I need to attend a three-day conference in a couple of weeks. I tend to wear business-y cardigans with nice tops, pants, and jewelry. Will that be ok? Do I need to buy a blazer?? Thank you, wise people. submitted by /u/ResolveRemarkable [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How does PVSA potentially improve a small nonprofit?

I'm the Treasurer of a very very very small volunteer-only nonprofit organization. Our budget is quite low; we're excited when we get a $100 donation. I'm being told that the PVSA is extremely worthwhile, and will pay for itself because it allows us to get grants more easily, and should attract attention / participation from outside volunteers (apparently they can register their hours through our organization even if they're volunteering with a different organization in addition to our own.) If both of these things are true, then the price of admission is likely worthwhile, however I am not t ..read more

Applying for a first time Chief Executive role, any advice?

Applying to the role of chief executive for a new NPO in my local community. I have no direct NPO management experience but have volunteered with several locally, one of which I’m on the board of which is a similar cause to the one I’ve applied to. I have transferable skills from various jobs I’ve had in the past, but this would be a huge step up. I am passionate about the cause, and have a knowledge of issues locally, so I feel this is an advantage. The group incubating the new NPO are all heavily experienced, so I’m looking for ways to stand out above others who may have more management exp ..read more

Non-Profit how-to in India.

I have recently started working with a very small non profit in Andhra Pradesh, India. Our vision is to bring about a sustainable world through awareness of our interconnectedness and love. Our work is solid and we are slowly beginning to create the impact we want to see. But we seem to jump through tools many hoops unnecessarily when it comes to donations and accounting. And we don’t even deal in any large amount of funds. It is hard for our donors to donate to us and we seem to make their lives harder. We are very tiny, short on funds and manpower. I want to know what laws are applicable on ..read more

What am I missing? Gifts Officer

Looking for advice/direction. For almost ten years I have worked as a first responded because I felt it was the best way to make a difference in my community. Last year I got hurt at work, almost died, and it snowballed to the point where I won't be able to return to my prior job. After a few months of trying to figure out what to do, I decided that I'm not done giving back to the community and want to get into non-profit work. I noticed that almost every group I was interested in working for had a job posting for a gifts officer or major gifts officer. After reading the job descriptions, I s ..read more

Networking advice for a budding nonprofit copywriter

Hello, all! I'm transitioning from a career in another form of writing to nonprofit copywriting (development, marketing/communications — really, whatever wordful projects they need support with!). I'm getting my portfolio together with volunteer work, and I'm trying to set myself up for seeking out clients soon. I hear/read that networking is important. So, um...how do you do it? I'll be super jazzed about any introvert-friendly tips — any groups on social media you'd recommend joining, for example? I'm really open to any advice, though. If you could just explain it to me like I’m 5, that'd b ..read more
