End of the long drive After the Whitsundays (from Airlie Beach) it was still a bit longer drive to get to Cairns (623km). That always means a lot of Flat White Coffee, plenty of dead animals along the road and listening to all sorts of music (ranging from Erika’s electro, through Isi’s hip hop and rnb to my Led Zeppelin). Surprisingly Erika’s knowledge of the rock classics got better over the last few weeks. Mine about electro and hip hop remained pretty much the same (non-existing). I did a post last week about a small trip around cairns, which pretty much ended our driving on the mainland of ..read more

End of the long journey So we made it in the end. Our long drive north with thousands of kilometers was over. My biggest fear – the weather (should have been extremely hot and humid) was ok-ish. Yes, it rained cats and dogs exactly when we parked the car in front of our airbnb. What can be a better welcome than bringing all the things from the car in heavy rain and rivers of water on the street? The airbnb was spacious, nothing extra, but did the job. Last ride for the Holden We had a bit of time left before our 3 day dive trip, so we decided to explore the area a bit with our Holden Colorado ..read more

Around the world: The beautiful Whitsundays – snorkeling GoPro shots

The ‘lost’ photos While last week I was preparing the post on Whitsundays, I could not find by any means the shots from the GoPro camera which I took during the 3 days of snorkeling. So at least I posted the DSLR photos and a short video (that miraculously I had from my GoPro, but not the photos). Today, I was going through the external HDD and here you go… the missing shots. I quickly looked through them and I liked some of them so much, that I simply had to make this follow up post The turtles As I wrote last week, we were pretty lucky with the amount of turtles we saw in the area. All of a ..read more

The Whitsunday Islands Cruise When we started our Ozzie trip and met with Erika in Sydney, it was pretty clear that the Whitsundays would become a must stop for us. While in Byron Bay, we already planned a 3 day tour (boat trip on a nice small yacht called Prima). We set off for the sailing from Airlie Beach. The 3 day boat trip was quite pricey, but exactly what we needed after South East Asia and some driving in Australia. For once again, we were looking forward to meeting some new people and we ended up having plenty of Europeans on the boat (incl. the skipper Thierry from France and the ch ..read more

The Prep We were thinking a lot about what to do in Australia before going on our trip. The country is just so huge and there are so many things to do (e.g. Uluru, Alice Springs and Outback, Great Ocean Road, West Coast incl. Perth, etc.pp.), that it’s a really tough choice. However, since we definitely wanted to dive the Great Barrier Reef, our decision soon fell on the mother of all tourist roads in Australia: the East Coast. It was confirmed after talking to Erika and deciding to do part of the trip together – cause so randomly she was there visiting some PhD friends of hers over New Years ..read more

Wir wollten eh irgen ..read more

Luang Prabang …and how we ended up in the hospital 08.12.2016 – 12.12.2016 Hello again, after the Gibbon Experience was over, we got driven back to their office in Huay Xai and I think we arrived there at around 1pm. Since we were waitlisted for our dates on the trip in the first place, of course we hadn’t booked anything after that. Many people had booked the night bus from Huay Xai (Bokeo) to Luang Prabang that left at 5pm. So we tried to get on as well, but it was full. The only choice we had was the “local bus”, and since there were no other options, we took it. BAD IDEA The bus too ..read more

too late, I know. We have finished the Annapurna circuit about a month ago now and I am sitting for the last morning in Siem Reap in Cambodia as I am splitting this blog post into 3 because I am still not finished with the photos. Therefore this is just the 1st part at this moment. These lines below give a really brief summary of what has happened in those fast days a month ago.   Zurich to Muscat to Kathmandu… Flights went without much trouble. The 7 hour break in Muscat (Oman) was tough – seriously falling asleep, and not very much to do at this airport. We basically spent most of the t ..read more

Old photos… I made a trip in the South West of USA back in 2010. I hope to be able to revisit many of those places again soon (in May 2016). Therefore I was thinking it could be a nice opportunity to revive some of the old photos from these places and make a comparison of what it looks like in spring vs. end of summer. the 2010 trip: San Francisco –> Yosemite –> Mono Lake –> Bodie Town –> Death Valley –> Las Vegas –> Grand Canyon (South rim) –> Page area (Upper Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe bend, Lake Powell) –> Zion –> Bryce Canyon –> Arches –> Salt Lake desert ..read more
