Having gone through two rounds of orthodontist so far (one in 13’s another one in 30’s) with standard braces and elastics, results are still not satisfactory.. I have severe overbite, class II, short chin bone, but lately I heard about this TAD (temporary anchorage device) treatment can potentially correct my bite (and potentially change my appearance) through anticlockwise rotation. By doing that it seems achieving the same/similar result compared to a surgery. I’m looking for experienced orthodontists specialized in giving this treatment to adults in Sydney. Clear plastic retainer lifespan?

I had three sets of clear plastic retainers after my brace and each of them lasts for about only 9 months before cracking. I got mixed information in this sub about how long they can last, from 3 months to 20 years. Why is the range so wide? Is that just because of quality, or there are actually different types of clear plastic retainers with different design lifespan? submitted by /u/yuhang94 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I’m going to a trip and forgot my retainers at home, should I be worried?

I used to wear braces for a year and got them off to replace them with retainers (I was done with the braces treatment, not because I wanted to). I wore my retainers 24/7 for 6 months (as my dentist told me to) and now i'm only wearing them at night before sleeping since December 2023. I forgot my retainers at home and i'm going to a trip for 2 weeks. Will it be a big issue for me during this time? I can't call my dentist because i'm out of the country. Can someone help? Thanks! submitted by /u/idk_lol11 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi all! I’m looking to get a UV cleaner for my retainer. I tend to have plaque build up and my retainer is SO dirty, no matter how much I clean it. I’ve been reading Amazon reviews for different cleaners and all of them seem to have the same complaint that they all just stop working. Does anybody have any recommendations? submitted by /u/booknerd155 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Retainer smells every night

I’ve had my retainer for about two weeks, a common problem is that it always smells bad when I go to put it in. At first I thought I wasn’t cleaning it properly every morning, so now I spend 5 minutes rinsing it in the morning to wash away any saliva or bacteria, I also do my best to dry it but the area by my front teeth and bottom front teeth is super narrow and I’m never able to actually dry it without air drying it/shaking it. I brush my teeth every night before I put in it. what is causing the smell/how can I better clean it. I’ve also used the cleaning tablets they gave me but still, the ..read more

How does head gear work?

Bit of a random one. I got braces and then a contraption in my mouth for 6 weeks to bring my lower jaw forward as I had an overbite. If anything, it seems like all that did was make it habit for me to keep my lower jaw in a forward position. Fast forward 5 years, and naturally my jaw is back in its original, comfortable yet overbite position. So, how does head gear make permanent changes to jaw structure? submitted by /u/CoffeeKween19 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi I recently visited an orthodontist who quoted me 7k for braces and even more for Invisalign. My pictures and consult notes are here . My boyfriend thinks it’s a waste to get braces but I have TMD on my right side that makes a popping noise. What do you guys think? submitted by /u/Efficient_Heart_7818 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

This specialist says her myobraces move adult bone

It was her answer to a question posed by an attendant of a course that she held recently. The question was how her myobraces work on people with implants. Her answer was: "They move along because the bone moves along" with a duh hanging in the air of the response. Now, I was under the asumption - and allegedly Mew agrees - that implants don't move. submitted by /u/leinlin [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
