Why You Should Be Photographing Panoramic Pictures

Its no secret, I'm a panorama addict ! In fact, so much so that on almost every trip I'm aiming to get a panoramic picture to include on the site, but why ? Why Photograph Panoramas ? For me the main reason is I want my photography prints to have impact, and let's face it a 3 metre long panorama has exactly that when displayed on a wall in a home or gallery. They are unusual too, these unconventional prints really do offer something quite different to a regular 3:2 ratio print and perhaps most importantly, not many people seem to do them so you get a much better chance of selling them as anyo ..read more

Bluebells In Fog
Daniel Wretham Photography Blog
by Daniel Wretham

For over 15 years I have had a dream shot in mind, a Bluebell forest full of fog or mist. I have never managed to capture this in all the years of trying, I have either been busy when conditions have presented themselves, or they simply haven't happened, I have been incredibly unlucky. Many times over the years I have been crushed when fog eventually gets forecast and for whatever reason I just cant go, sometimes due to work commitments, or similar, it just always happens to fall on a day when its impossible to go. I sit watching the pictures roll in from other landscape photographers who ha ..read more

Northern Lights In Dorset !

Never thought I would be saying that tittle on here but here we are. This is a continuation from the previous blog post about the Northern lights in the New Forest which you can read HERE So where were we ? Thats right I was driving home from the New Forest after having a simply incredible evening of photographing the Aurora Borealis but having been up for 23 hours I was fading fast and heading home, but something just kept nagging me to get a Dorset shot and not miss these conditions which really were once in a lifetime. I was thinking where I could go, the obvious place was Knowlton Church ..read more

Photographing the Aurora Borealis over the New Forest
Daniel Wretham Photography Blog

Well, I never thought I would be making a blog entry about the Northern Lights in the UK, let alone as far south as the New Forest in Hampshire ! I've never really been interested in chasing the Northern lights in the UK as to be fair this far south the showing, whilst super rare is often very poor and just not my cup of tea. However on Friday the 10th of May, 2024 there was a lot of chatter going on about an extremely large solar flare event that could possibly cause a showing of the aurora borealis of epic proportions, even as far south as here. I didn't pay much attention to it at first a ..read more

Kingjoy SolidRock C85 Tripod Review

A while ago Kingjoy asked if I would like to try their brand new top of the range Carbon Fibre tripod, the SolidRock C85. While always keen to look at new things I declined as I said I was a Gitzo user and didn't think anything could better that, but Kingjoy said this tripod would surprise me and I really needed to try it to see why, while I was intrigued I still declined as I said I used the levelling base on my Gitzo and really didn't want to be without it as it made life so much easier and I'm a huge fan of doing panoramas. Kingjoy then made me stand up and take notice, The SolidRock C85 c ..read more

Rab Kinetic Alpine 2.0 Waterproof Jacket Review
Daniel Wretham Photography Blog
by Daniel Wretham

My Rab jacket addiction continues ! But lets be clear, every jacket I buy is for a very specific purpose and the Rab Kinetic Alpine 2.0 has been on my radar for a while, allow me to explain. The Problem ? The problem I have had for many years is that I use a separate waterproof jacket for my photography/hiking, much like many of you will and this is designed to go over whatever jacket i'm wearing for the hike. This will usually sit in the bottom of my rucksack and when it starts raining I would hunt around for it having to remove the backpack and contents only to get a soaking by the time I go ..read more

Corfe Castle Mist

Now its been a very long time since I've written a blog post about a single session, instead preferring to list a few in one post, but this time at Corfe Castle it was special, REALLY special and I just had to share it with you. Lets face it, Corfe Castle in the mist isn't a very original shot, in fact its been done to death by every landscape photographer out there, but with good reason, its EPIC ! and it's also on the bucket list of pretty much every landscape photographer out there too. We all know just how popular it is, and you only have to look at the amount of landscape photographers o ..read more

I was lucky enough to be asked by photographer and YouTube, Gary Norman to do an interview/informal chat on his YouTube channel. Gary has got a good size following and is an excellent photographer who has chosen to help out much smaller youtubers such as myself to get our work out to a much bigger audience. On top of this he's a really nice guy and we had a great laugh doing this chat, Gary is known for never pulling his punches and saying it how it is and he doesn't disappoint, some tough questions are asked ! Gary has a unique and entertaining style of chat and draws on a wealth of experien ..read more

Landscape Photography Blog, December 2021
Daniel Wretham Photography Blog

Let's face it, this year had been an absolute disaster in photography terms. I had battled non stop to just get the time to go out and when I had the weather had just not played ball for me. Work had been non stop this year and weekends were sadly spent doing the overflow of work or catching up on things that needed doing at home or in my personal life. When I actually had free time I was inundated with workshop requests (Not complaining at that) but it had left me with next to no time to enjoy my landscape photography for myself and I didn't fancy another year of that to be fair. December saw ..read more
