Water, water, everywhere...

Here in the Bay Area, the rain might actually be over! (maybe??)  I can never be upset that it's raining, given that for most of my decade living here we've been in a severe drought, but I certainly appreciate when the rain stops and the sun comes back out! I might actually get a chance to pull my giant magnifying glass out of my garage into the sunlight and start melting glass again!  *fingers crossed*  A series of earrings, all in the same lovely pale blue color of Water, made from sun-melted glass Bombay Sapphire Gin bottles. All of these earrings are made from recycled bott ..read more

A new angle on ovals
Sundrop Jewelry
by Tawny Reynolds
1M ago
I started this series of posts on my Water-colored glass jewelry with a very old favorite, the Cameo Earrings.  It seems only right to also share this newer angle on ovals which I introduced as part of the Tendrils Collection.  While they may not seem closely related to the Short Tendrils Earrings I wrote about recently, the wide ribbon of silver fits right in with the larger Ribbon Earrings and Necklaces you'll also find in the collection. An angled oval of silver frames an elegant teardrop of sun-melted glass. Years before, when I was working on the jewelry made from sli ..read more

A smaller, simpler design...
Sundrop Jewelry

If you liked the earrings I shared yesterday but thought they were a little larger than you wished, you're in luck!  These Small Eclipse Earrings are a little simpler and shorter, with a single teardrop framed in double circles of sparkling silver.  (But just like the Orbital Motion Earrings, they still chime gently as you move!) You'll find these Small Eclipse Earrings available in the whole rainbow of colors in my shop now! Shop Now >> ..read more

Whimsical Illusion Earrings
Sundrop Jewelry
by Tawny Reynolds

I first came up with the inspiration for these Illusion Earrings when I was sketching ideas for fun, whimsical ear hooks.  I wanted to try making some earrings that featured my trademark Sundrops, but for which much of the form and interest came from the silver that formed the hook itself.  These were one of my favorite ideas, but definitely the most difficult to bring out of my sketch book into real life! The hook for the Illusion Earrings, like the rest of the Doodles Collection, is made from a thicker wire than my standard earring hooks.  If you have tiny ..read more

Marquise Earrings - longer, but still minimal and elegant
Sundrop Jewelry

I've been told that if you have short-ish hair that just covers your ears, sometimes your earrings can hide even more effectively than with longer hairstyles.  (I admit, I don't have personal experience here.  The last time my hair was short I was in 2nd grade!) But on behalf of those of you with shorter hair, I love that these Marquise Earrings provide a bit of extra length to help them peek out, while still keeping to the aesthetic of minimalist elegance. And as you can see, they show up beautifully with longer hair too! Shop Now >> ..read more

Earrings inspired by tendrils with a dainty drop of dew
Sundrop Jewelry
by Tawny Reynolds

I was inspired to make these earrings by a gorgeous close-up photo of a dainty dew drop dangling from the coiling tendril of a vine.  My tiny Water drops were just the right color and shape, and I invented a new wire wrapping that could evoke the tightly curled tendrils.  Since the first inspired pair, I have (of course!) expanded these Short Tendrils Earrings to offer them in the whole rainbow of colors, but I can't keep myself from returning to the original pale blue. Falling in love with aquamarine
Sundrop Jewelry

Since it's March, I'm exploring one of my favorite colors of glass, Water, and falling in love all over again.  It's the perfect color for March's birthstone, aquamarine! This color of glass has been one of my favorites ever since discovering it - it's made from upcycled Bombay Sapphire Gin bottles!  But over time my attention drifted to new colors.  Spending time this month paying attention to these older pieces that I love but which had gotten pushed aside over time - wearing them, doing a photoshoot, simply paying attention and appreciating the way the pale blue color catche ..read more

Drops of rain jewelry for a rainy season
Sundrop Jewelry
by Tawny Reynolds

Happy March!  Spring is just around the corner (on my birthday, in fact!) and here in the Bay Area, the rainy weather continues.  After years - decades? - of drought, we're getting lots of rain the past couple winters, which means I haven't been getting many opportunities to melt glass with my giant magnifying glass.  But that's ok!  Since my glass-melting process is so weather-dependent, I always try to keep enough stock in reserve to make it through the un-sunny seasons.  Back when I lived in Colorado and Minnesota, I'd stock up for winter so that I wouldn ..read more

Revisiting an oval obsession
Sundrop Jewelry

Every once in a while I get a bit burned out on trying to constantly come up with something "new" for Sundrop Jewelry.  Sometimes the creativity is flowing, and sometimes it's not.  And that's ok.  Because it gives me the excuse to pause, look up and look back at all the lovely designs I developed in the past, but which I always forget to share! I've spent the past few days revisiting some of those lovely older designs I had practically forgotten about, and becoming obsessed all over again - like with these Water Cameo Earrings!  I love the way the single tr ..read more

While I'm always happy to have you shop online for Sundrop Jewelry, sometimes it's just easier to commit when you can see what you're getting in person.  To hold the earrings up to your ear and look in a mirror to decide if they're really the right size and color for you.  To feel how lightweight they are and know they won't give you a headache halfway through the day.  To see how the sunlight shines through the colored glass in real life, not in a photo. That's why I'm always glad to welcome new retailers who decide to carry Sundrop Jewelry! This year I've already welcome ..read more
