The Brentwood Dollhouse: Cork Brick Tutorial

Today I'm sharing how I bricked the exterior of my dollhouse for part two of the Brentwood Dollhouse series. I'm so happy with how these cork bricks turned out!  They are easy to apply, light, and much more affordable than some of the other brick options we have in miniature.   I previously used cork to make a stacked stone facade.  That style used 1/8" thick cork. You can see it on the Belmont Dollhouse here. To make the cork bricks I got out my large sheet of 1/4" thick cork.  Miniatures.com sells it here. I also used a square, a utility knife with a fresh blade ..read more

Hello Fall!  I'm celebrating the season in my dining roombox this week with Hobby Builders Supply and miniatures.com.  Today is Thanksgiving Monday here in Canada and this weekend has been all about food, family, and the outdoors.  It's been surprisingly warm for this time of year so we've been getting outside to enjoy the fall colours. A fall miniature dining room scene has been on my wishlist for a long time now.  I focused on an autumn colour palette with warm wood and gold accents, and lots of beautiful florals.  This scene takes place in the afternoon, j ..read more

Season number 3! My seasonal bungalow dollhouse is enjoying the last few days of summer.  I finished the gardens and switched up the grass for the change in season.  I'm very happy with how all the flowers and plants came together, it was a mix from talented artisans and a few I made myself.  If you missed the previous posts about this dollhouse, you can find them here. This summer scene really started with the miniature hanging flower baskets by Artisan Kraig Councell of Creative Eye Miniatures. I contacted him back in March and they were worth the wait!  They a ..read more

Meet my new dollhouse!  I started out with the RGT Victoria's farmhouse kit and somewhere along the way decided to make it bigger and re-cut almost all of the pieces...  and here we are! This new dollhouse is 38" wide by 31.5" high and 22.5" deep.  I've taken away the side and upper porch from the original design and extended the house an extra 4.5 inches on the back right side for the kitchen.  I've also bumped out the floorplan on the left side, making the front porch smaller and the living space larger. That meant recutting all new floors and the majority of th ..read more

Warmer days call for outdoor living! I've partnered up with HBS/miniatures.com to furnish and decorate my new outdoor kitchen and garden villa roombox. Everything is linked at the end of this post! This mini garden villa has a big outdoor kitchen for entertaining and a nice patio space in the sun.  I blended a bit of a contemporary style with a rustic look, combining stone and wood elements throughout.  Two shelves that line the far wall are filled with lots of accessories, dishes and plants.  Because the structure is so neutral and had a lot of light grey tones I made sure t ..read more

We're looking back at my 2020 winter bungalow dollhouse scene today.  I'm still cleaning up the snowflakes from this!   The garland and wreaths are by Tiny Naturals on Etsy.  The lanterns are from my shop.   The trees are a mix of Lemax, Model Builders Supply, and Michaels.  And I printed out the backdrop on Engineering paper.   The icicles were super easy to make.  I used Watereffects by Woodland Scenics.  And to protect my roof I put down a layer of foam board before adding a lot of modeling paste and powdered snow from ..read more

Bungalow Dollhouse: Exterior Construction

Today I've got a long overdue follow up to my original bungalow construction post.  We're looking at the exterior; roofing, siding, shingles, foundation, and landscaping.  All of which was all done prior to my fall scene.  The photo above was taken right after I removed the snow from my winter scene (post to follow) and so things are still being put back into place.  I'm getting ready for a spring/summer display (and painstakingly removing the leftover snowflakes!)  So let's rewind a bit and look at how things came to be. I wanted the bungalow to have a traditional ..read more
