the events we host are always so much more than people running a course that we set and the 2024 toboggan run was no different!   they are full of moments,  interactions  and conversations that can make a real and positive impact, unbeknownst to us (most of the time). that kind gesture,  or that seemingly simple exchange of words. that can 'flip the switch' for someone. whether that 'switch' gets you to register for an event, to do one more loop, or to get out of your comfort zone for a lot longer than you ever thought you could. for the ones that are fearful, emba ..read more

phew! we got super lucky with the weather yet again and the trails were in great shape…minus the ‘low spot’ on the course which was ankle to waist deep, depending on your line. note: always listen to the dirt bike guys giving advice on the best line!! they know what they’re talking about ? as suspected, the course record for the boys was hammered, not by just one guy, but two!! super impressive running and it was really exciting to watch as i jumped around the course to see the action. next year we’ll offer $250 for the boys course record again and the pot for the ladies will be $300 ..read more

Colin and Sean plotting the bonus control Well that was a lot of fun and long overdue!! With no E2C the last few years, this gave everyone a small taste of it again! Here’s to hoping E2C is back next year! We had a great mix of trail runners (including the OG crew from the early days!), orienteering peeps, adventure racers and people that are totally new to all of it, so it really was perfect.  The participants received their maps 5 minutes before the start and had a few options for route choices once they picked CW or CCW. Once they returned to the start/finish, there was an o ..read more

We are very fortunate people. One of the reasons we organize races is because we love sharing those moments with strangers and friends alike. Those moments?  You know…those moments where you help someone struggling during a difficult time.  Those moments where you witness someone put their doubts aside, stand up and move forward again. Those moments when you cry with someone at the finish line.  Those moments.  Those moments that no one can take from us and that we are so very grateful for.  Big or small, ugly or pretty, heartbreaking or heartwarming.  Mo ..read more

After 2 years of deferrals, transfers and refunds, the 10th Wascally Wabbit finally happened...and it did not disappoint!! The new hill received rave reviews, so we're already planning to add a new one (yes...an even better one) for next year's edition :)  Anybody see any black flies out there? The 3 brave volunteers (Liz G, Liz M and Jean-Marc B) at Gerry's certainly had their hands full running an aid station, doing gear checks and swatting flies. Those flies! Ugg! You all deserve an extra gold star!!  A big thank you to Karine for all of the behind the scenes organizing, registra ..read more

Great weather? Check! Fun? Check! Tons of PBs? Check! Records broken? Check! Inspiring? Check!  I can only speak for Karine and I, but we are definitely feeling the affects of "post-race blues" after having a great day with all y'all on April 16th, 2022...especially after having the Toboggan Run delayed since the January 2020 event! Thanks again to the Salomon, Tailwind Nutrition, the SMATVA club, the private landowners who gave us permission once again to run across their property, and to our lovely volunteers Karine (as always) and Michael Gfeller :)  It's obvious that the trai ..read more

That was a great reunion! So good to see all the runners, volunteers and spectators come out for our first fairly normal race since January 2020! Looking forward to 2022 for sure!! Thanks very much to all of you for coming out on this great day. A big thanks to Karine and the excellent volunteer team (thanks Brian and Matt for bringing treats too!). Karine, Liz and Jenn took care of the registration and time keeping, while Heather, Ken, Sheryl, Lee, Brian, Jenn, Matt, Steve directed the runners throughout the 10ish kilometre course and Al and Ken did double duty course sweeping and course cle ..read more

Tough as DOuG? results 2021!

Although it was a small crowd, they were all keeners for the unknown...which is exactly what we wanted! Congrats for showing up and dealing with whatever was thrown your way...who knows what to expect in the next edition!? We can safely say that we will have no more than 15 people for this format. The UK version only allows 10 runners...most likely because it's tough to juggle volunteers on the various 'legs' of the race when runners are spread out all over the county Oh...we had 3 distances written on the back of 3 Salomon stickers, which were laid on the ground before the race started ..read more
