Every post on social media is making us fully aware of the summer travel anxiety that may soon ensue. Don’t worry, I’ve already been through it, I’ve felt that awful heart fluttering, feelings of panic. And made it out alive. Well, by “alive”, I mean, without a panic attack or wishing bad things upon small screaming children or rude passengers. Also, I have previously suffered extreme PTSD anxiety after a series of accidents a few years ago. I mostly have it under control now, but it flares up in situations like crowded chaotic airports and planes. Here’s everything I do to avoid it, and keep ..read more

How to Pack a Carry On Using Travel Compression Bags
My Life's A Movie | Travel Blog by Alyssa Ramos
by

It’s usually a bit shocking when I tell people I only pack one carry on for long term travel, especially since my Instagram makes it seem like I travel with an entire mobile wardrobe. But it’s true! *2024 UPDATE: Full disclosure, I wrote this post almost 10 years ago, and I definitely rarely travel with just a carry on since I travel full time, but the types are still very on point for anyone wanting to travel with just a carry-on! All I use is a sturdy hardshell cary-on sized suitcase, and a whole lot of packing tricks and techniques that I’ve figured out during the last six months of full-t ..read more

Everest Basecamp VS Kilimanjaro: Which is Harder?
My Life's A Movie | Travel Blog by Alyssa Ramos

Now that I have successfully trekked both Everest Basecamp and Kilimanjaro summit, I can give my comparisons, and my opinion on which was more difficult. Spoiler alert: BOTH were difficult. Neither is just a cute and scenic walk through a National Park, or a trendy jog around Runyon Canyon. Both are intense, extreme, and do require a certain level of physical and mental preparedness. Another spoiler alert: Overall, EBC was harder, however the hardest day out of both hikes, was the summit of Kilimanjaro. After completing EBC using the packing list our tour company gave us, I decided to make this extensive essential Everest  Basecamp packing guide, to help you all out more than I was helped. I definitely ended up not having or not needing quite a few things, so knowing that info alone will make your EBC packing experience better! Also, if I knew I could buy many of the items in Thamel (in Kathmandu) I would have done that. So that being said: KEY: Many items can be bought in a small area of Kathmandu called Thamel for very cheap and decent quality. I will write “BIT” for “Bought in Thamel ..read more

Madagascar is definitely a destination that should be on your bucketlist, but also one that you should be well prepared for. I’ve already gotten a lot of questions ranging from vaccines to drone regulations, so I’m going to go through them all to help you prepare! I will definitely disclose up front that we were told by the local guides and hotel several times that it can be dangerous, so keep that in mind. In fact they straight up told us not to go out in the main city of Antananarivo after 5pm, and that we would not be driving anywhere at night time during our tour! That being said, I would ..read more

15 Bhutan Tour Highlights Besides Tiger’s Nest
My Life's A Movie | Travel Blog by Alyssa Ramos

Let me just start this post out by saying that you have to do a Bhutan tour in order to visit the country. You cannot just go there and explore on your own. This is likely part of the country’s aim to protect their culture and holy sites, since it’s one of the few non over-tourism destinations in the world! This is a smart move, considering how many people likely only want to go to Bhutan to see the famous Tiger’s Nest temple. But spoiler alert, most tours will insist you visit their other beautiful sites, and I can tell you that it’s well worth it! So here’s all of the highlights you’ll see ..read more

So the Tiger’s Nest temple in Bhutan is on your bucketlist, eh? Well guess what, it’s a lot harder to get to it than you may think? Well, maybe you do think it’s hard to get to, considering it’s perched on the side of a sheer cliff. The Travel God’s blessed me with a sunny day in winter, and no people since it was low season, so I threw a dress on over my hiking gear for a unique photo! Anyway! Not only is Bhutan slightly hard to get to, but the Tiger’s Nest temple requires quite the hike! And at a high altitude! Here’s my travel tips that usually no one tells you about this unique destination ..read more
