Yesterday, I gave a swim lesson to Brian of Team Kick Obesity. He is both working on losing weight himself to get down to his ideal weight, and inspiring others while doing so. He’s taken on doing a triathlon as a way to do this, including the accountability of ..read more

I stepped into the unknown last night- into a neighbor’s holiday party. There wasn’t much detail given as to if we were eating dinner, having drinks, dessert, or just some appetizers. Turns out there was a lot of food. But it was fairly easy to navigate. I avoided the little sandwiches and puff pastries and went for the deviled eggs, and the olives. All was good! I thought. But then more wine was being pushed on me. And dessert. Sara Lee coconut cake. Hmmm…. well it’s the holidays, why not? Had a slice and it was pretty good. I don’t think there was any option to turn it down anyway. Did I fe ..read more

“Shoulds”, reality, and being true to yourself
Tri Swim Coach

Do you ever think about what you think you should do, vs. what you want to do? We have a big holiday coming up in the US next week, the day when millions of people hit the roads and air to meet up with family and friends to celebrate a day of thanks. And then go shopping! The day came up quickly for me this year, and I wasn’t really prepared to make any kind of trek. I did get invited to a friend’s house locally for dinner, and another friend invited me to go on a road trip and get out of town for a few days. Meanwhile, people have been asking me “What are you doing for Thanksgiving?” and I ..read more

“I can do things I don’t feel like doing.” We all want to be free to do what we want to do. But whatever goals we set for ourselves, there will be times when we just don’t feel like doing things that we need to do to accomplish those goals. In the article, they used the example of getting off the couch, when it may feel cozy and nice to sit and watch Netflix or just zone out. I can think of a lot of things in my life that I know I need to do, but procrastinate on, because they are not so exciting or interesting. Like doing the dishes ? But the idea is to accept these thoughts (i.e. “I don’t ..read more

Do you really need a swing coach?
Tri Swim Coach
by Kevin Koskella

No that wasn’t a typo in the subject line. Do you need a swing coach? The sport of golf is similar to swimming in many ways. When you learn golf, there are so many little details that have to go into getting a reasonably decent swing, and be able to get into a groove on the course. How’s your grip? Where’s your head? How far back are you bringing the club? Where are your feet? What’s your follow through like? In swimming, you can ask very similar questions. Head position, arm extension, pull, kick, etc. There are definitely things you need to learn in these realms. But at a certain point ..read more
