Question about dancing flame.

I recently tested a new fragrance with soy. The first two hours it burned great but I notice as the candle burned more in to where the jar gets wider the flame danced around a little. Not much, If I wasn't a picky candle maker I probably wouldn't even notice. There was no soot and no mushrooming. I read somewhere else that a lilttle bit of "throbbing" or "dancing" is ok At first. That the time to worry is if it is constant and soot and shrooms appear. Should I worry ..read more

Advice for Beginner Soy Candle Maker

Hello! I got my first soy candle making kit today. I just started mat leave and really wanted to try a new hobby before baby gets here. I got the “Fragranth” kit from Amazon. It didn’t go as smoothly as I had hoped due to some issues with the melting method and the thermometer. Probably a user error ?  it came with an aluminum melting pitcher, which I filled with some soy wax (enough for an 8oz container). I then put it in a medium sauce pan filled with about an inch and a bit with water as instructed (I tried a pot as well but the pitcher just kept floating in it). The instructions said ..read more

New waxes at The Flaming Candle.  http://www.theflamingcandle.com/paraffin-wax/ I'm especially interested in the Pro Blend 450 to replace 4625 because it's granular, which means no more rock hard slabs.  Anyone know anything about this wax?  Here's the info for the ProBlend 450, which is supposed to be similar to 4625.  C&P from TFC site:     ProBlend 450 Paraffin Pillar Wax Need case quantities? Melting Wax Outside, Pouring Candles Inside

I’m in a studio area in a house, nice conditions, very comfortable. Problem is, I can’t be burning heaters and melting wax in this area. I have a decent portion of the room to pour and let candles cool, but that’s about it. Because of this I built a small metal shed in the backyard, I can stand up in it and have ran electricity out there. This is where I have made candles in the past and hope to start making them again. I have a ton of experimentation to partake in, once again, but that’s another discussion.        First, I’m looking for any type of feedback in regards ..read more

I’m so incredibly grateful for this board and everyone’s guidance and encouragement over the past few years. It’s funny how a little interest in making candles that I can enjoy (without getting headaches) meandered into soap making. Everyone I gave to soap to for the holidays was extremely excited. From the bottom of my heart thank you, thank you, thank you ..read more

GB444 vs Candlewic CBL130 or CBL125

Hi all, I have recently decided I would like to stick to either 444 or a blend of CBL130 / CBL125 and figure things out from here.  Does anyone have any insight as to which might be the better bet?  I have strictly made Wax Melts and the natural progression of things tells me to learn candles.  I have been on and off for about a year and just cant get things figured out between good HT but jar temps over 155 or good jar temp and light HT.  I have stuck with 7% but I just keep seeing how so many ppl go upwards of 10% with success but some say less is more so I think I am at ..read more
