Hi everyone! We recently moved in to our new home and wanted to start growing some veggies in our yard. However, our house casts a massive shadow for most of the day and then our neighbors tall trees also cast a lot of shade so there are barely any super sunny spots. Can you please recommend some easy to grow for a first timer vegetables that do well in shade? TIA!

First time gardener here! Can anyone help me out here? Why is my cilantro turning red? Never seen anything like that until now... We moved to a new flat in Vienna, Austria with a rooftop garden. So my guess is too much sun? But it looks too "juicy" and I have been very careful with the watering process - never too much, never too little... so strange! Never had that before

Hello! I have this lean-to trellis set up in my community garden plot, but I’m a bit torn on what would fit on the leaning side of it. It’s made of bamboo, with the poles being about 6 feet long. So it’s roughly 6 feet wide, and roughly 5 feet tall with the angle it’s leaning. The “open” side faces east.
I originally planned on cucumbers, spaghetti squash, and sugar baby watermelon. But I’m torn if that will be too much between the watermelon and squash. Maybe I’ll do two cucumber vines, plus one or the other of squash/watermelon? What would you do?
Note: the tall side closest to the cam ..read more

Hi all,
I just bought a new tomato plant from the plant nursery and it already had a cluster of green tomatoes growing, but the plant is quite small and certainly haven’t reached its mature size yet, and I have just replanted it into a much larger pot so should cut off the immature tomatoes to make it grow to the full size during the coming summer?
Thank you for your your help!

I’m a noob at gardening and after my 5th attempt I was able to grow some seeds. The growth was really slow probably because the soil was poor. Just when they had their first true leaves I potted them in grow bags. I did my research and made a soil mix suitable for my zone. Added a nice ratio of compost, sand, cocopeat & cow dung to the garden soil. I hope they grow fast now because it took me more than a month to get here. I think a few of my seedlings are going through transplant shock. I’ve also noticed some yellowing of the leaves.
1) how to take care my seedlings in transplant sho ..read more

My mil is having a hard time with her starts this year. We got her a little greenhouse for Christmas and she was super excited bc the animals (cats and dogs) have messed w her plants in the past.
She has a really good house placement where she’s got sun in all day, but there year her seedlings are really really behind. We’re in 7a and by our almanac we start out peppers in February and our tomatoes in March and her plants are maybe 2-3 inches tall.
My questions:
Her windows are the type you can’t see in from the outside, are they cutting UV light?
Could using the greenhouse (which would put a ..read more

I'm planning on planning various beans cucumbers squash along my fence line. My concern is there is a dog next door if my plants cross the fence line are there vegetables that might hurt the dog if they eat them? My onions and garlic are on the other side of the garden but I don't know what else I should watch out for.

I have a giant, beautiful artichoke plant that unfortunately has aphids and I admittedly have let it get a bit out of control. (I also have what I think are ants "farming" the aphids, which is making it worse...) It doesn't seem to be harming the plant itself--it has like 30 artichokes on it at the moment--but it is kind of gross and makes them a pain to eat.
I spent a ridiculous amount of time and water this morning trying to blast as many ants and aphids as I could off of the plant. I live in a place (Southern California) with water restrictions and this is in a community garden that I ..read more

I'm trying to grow some red bell peppers. Varieties include King of the North, Wisconsin Lakes and Trailblazer Hybrid. I have decent germination, but they seem to stall. Maybe my expectations are wrong. Tomatoes grow fine with same setup.
Four 4" Barrina LED T5 20W 6500K running perpendicular over 4 trays of partially filled solo cups in basement so room temp around 62-65°F. I'm not sure about under the lights but they're just LED. Soil is just brand name seed starting mix. I had problems with heat pads so I've avoided them. Do they help after germination?
My guess is that it's too cold plus ..read more
