Before anyone dismisses this as ¡¡ not prog !! , think again! I've always had a peculiar attraction to the song »Obsession« by fleeting ensemble »Animotion« . And when I check it out, I find there's quite a backstory to it.

And, furthermore, it's no-less 'prog-rock' than, say, Owner of a Lonely Heart by Yes ... which ImO is a tad reminiscent of it. submitted by /u/Cizalleas [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

For me it used to be Ocean for the longest time but now Silent Cries has surpassed it, I think. I only did 70s albums because ahse it’s what fits in the poll but feel free to mention other ones too. View Poll submitted by /u/arjcanell [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

For recent Opeth live shows, do they mostly perform clean vocals songs these days, or do they still do some harsh vocals songs? I'm OK with either, but I'm thinking of inviting someone and he may not like harsh vocals. submitted by /u/trycuriouscat [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Some analyses of the technique of Guitarist »Aleksandar Živojinović« - AKA »Alex Lifeson«, with strong emphasis on his unique way of building & using weird chords, which is one of the main distinguishing features of his sound … & by-extension the sound of Rush.

But there's other stuff aswell … but his chords & chord-progressions are his 'realm', that he's High-Priest (of the Temples of Syrinx - ¡¡ haha !!) of … & there's a fair-bit here on the fine details of the inner machinery of it … and of that 'other stuff'.   http://www.riffinteractive.com/lesson?dir=lyler/titles/rock-legends/07-29-02   http://www.riffinteractive.com/lesson?dir=michaelj/titles/mjarchive30/10-02-03   https://www.guitarplayer.com/lessons/discover-the-genius-of-alex-lifesons-chord-voicings   https://www.guitarplayer.com/players/the-alex-lifeson-chord-a ..read more

What are some good instrumental prog rock (not metal) bands?

I'm not looking for pieces from bands that have vocals sometimes, I'd like to explore bands that are entirely instrumental. I would prefer for it not to be metal, and if possible not super technical. Is there stuff that fits this? submitted by /u/Snoo93951 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
