This is a reddit about the craft and art of *shoemaking*. From the patternmaking until the finished shiny shoe everything is good for this reddit. Some questions about repairing shoes are ok, but this is not about cobbling. Shoemakers can repair minor scratches and problems (after all, they can happen during the process) but we are not repairpersons.

So I'm in Canada and trying to source out material and tools. It seems Etsy is my best choice for most things but here's the question. Does anyone else find the shipping on Etsy is out to lunch too much or is it me? If there are any places in Canada I'd love to know.

I have a quite simple question: does anyone on here know how many shells you roughly need to make one pair of mens dress shoes? I dont know wether 1 could be just perfect or 2 are needed.

Want to turn to you with a request, can you please advise the literature on the construction of shoe last, it is especially interesting where the construction of transverse vertical sections is clearly stated? Thank you!

I hope this is an appropriate forum to ask this question—if not, I'll remove it.
Ten or fifteen years ago I bought the perfect pair of flip flops. They have served me well since then, but, having reached the end of their long and fulfilling life, they yearn to retire in favor of new flip flops. The problem is that none of the new pairs of flip flops I try hold a candle to the perfect ones. Specifically, the toe post of the perfect flip flops is a nylon so incredibly thin I can barely feel them between my toes. I called the company that made them (Reef) but they said that without a model name ..read more

Hey everyone,
I have wide (E width) and flat feet. I recently visited an orthopedic clinic, and had custom orthotics made for me. Turns out I need an inch worth of arch support, and a small foam pad placed right before the ball of my feet. So, now I’ve approached a handmade boot maker to see if they can just build up the arch support with leather for me (similar to Pacific Northwest boots, I assume), and maybe do something like that foam pad, if possible; basically tre ..read more
