TLDR: how to career and mom? How to find yourself after massive life changes?
Hi all.
I am in such a weird place right now. I’m a 30 y/o female. I recently shook up my entire career and had my first child, and now I just feel lost.
2 years ago I sold my green cleaning business that I spent years building and was so absorbed in. There were aspects of entrepreneurship that I truly loved but many parts I hated. I also just hated the industry I was in. Cleaning was and still isn’t it for me. I was stressed out and pregnant, and I had someone that wanted to buy the business so I did that.
Well, sh ..read more

Even though I have been 2 years outside of corporate I founded a small business with intense work even if it was flexible. The annual revenue ranges $100-200k and I have a 50/50 split with a partner.
It still has not reached by income goal and I really do miss corporate (a little less stressful and higher pay).
My question is how should I talk about this during a job interview?
It’s not like I took a real break… I kept working but for 32 hours vs 40 hours a week… with even less vacation days than corporate…
How can I word it to my advantage? Basically to avoid the “motherhood” salary penalty ..read more

Thinking of hiring a babysitter as I will only have 3 weeks leave, I’m thinking Id put the baby in daycare around 12 weeks, same as my first, maybe a little longer as the baby will end up going during the winter and maybe it’d be better to avoid the “sickness season”. With my first, at 3 weeks, I was in the thick of it, barely getting any sleep, mostly bc of me, I’m on the lighter side of sleeping, but my first was always a great sleeper.
I currently work full time from home, my husband works MWF from home, TTh in the office, he’ll work more at the office depending on the needs. I currently h ..read more

So the daycare my LOs are going to requests that parents inform them whenever a child will not be in attendance. They charge full price regardless. It was explained that this is because the price is charged for the spot not for the attendance. Not the problem. The problem I have is that they also said they want to know when a child will be out so that they can open a spot for another child that maybe on the waitlist for that day.
Is this OK? I see it as double dipping. I need to pay for the spot but they can also charge someone else for that same spot?
One daycare we attended charged half pri ..read more

I hate commuting to an office. I don’t thrive on human interaction or a collaborative environment. Part of the reason I am efficient and good at what I do is I don’t have to travel 2 hours a day to go to an office and interact with people idgaf about. I don’t play well with others. I hate this. That is all ?

US question here: Can someone walk me through the requirements for using dependent care FSA funds for paying a nanny? I started contributing thinking we were going to have my daughter in daycare, but we’ll be on the waitlist until the funds will expire. I am only looking for sporadic help (about 40-50 hours between now and September to use the funds left in the account) and I have seen that the person nannying will need to claim the income, but an I required to become an employer if it’s not full time? What paperwork do I need to fill out? For reference, we’re in PA. Any and all help is great ..read more

I think we all more or less understand what I mean by a stereotypical typical housewife task is, as framed by the 1950s traditional woman who stays at home and cooks and cleans and organizes the family etc. As a working mom I don’t think my husband truly is able to understand how much I do. I kind of want to just stop doing the things and see if he notices. But I don’t want my kids to suffer. Like, maybe I just won’t consider what he wants for dinner and just get myself and the kids fed. Maybe I’ll just do my and the kids laundry. Maybe I’ll stop arranging for and paying for the cleaning lady ..read more

Any suggestions from any HR/corporate girlies that may know the ins of how to maximize maternity leave before enrollment? I work for a global insurance company thats based out of Canada and they offer a plethora of benefits but when I asked my HR Rep what she recommended she said she wasn’t sure.
STD is a must, I know it’s going to cost me an arm and a leg but it could potentially get me 6-10 more weeks. But can I use that along with FMLA for maternity leave? Is FMLA maternity leave if my company offers PPL?
I’m not currently pregnant but we are trying- this company offers so much so are ther ..read more

Okay I get two glorious weeks of vacation in July.
The problem is I am so torn on what to do.
For context, I am working anywhere 60-85 hrs/week in healthcare (currently in fellowship as a MD). This year has been very very very tough with how much I’ve missed my LO. Like cry on your commute every single day the first three months and now feeling perpetually guilty about being gone so much kind of life is what I’m living. There isn’t anything I can do with my work hours, it is what it is and I’ve accepted it.
Also my husband really misses me and I miss him. He’s working full time and we barely ..read more

Baby starting daycare next week. 9 month old eats solids for three meals and is breastfed directly till now. He drinks water in sippy cup and has never used bottles or formula till now. Due to some change in plans, daycare would be next week instead of at one year plus as originally planned. I’m wondering if baby can survive on solids without breastmilk or formula from 9 to 3.
I’ll drop baby off at 9 am after a full feed. I will feed baby again at 3 pm and anytime after including nights on demand. But my work schedule (on field, 9.30-2.30) is such that I can’t pump and training baby to take b ..read more
