The Salt Stories - adventures of everyday, moving further up and further in
by Amy

I am scrolling social media, and I see something I like. Maybe I double tap it to let the creator know I like it, maybe I save the post, hoping to review it later. No matter how much I like it, typically within seconds I am scrolling on to the next thing. The scrolling habits of social media have rewired the way I process information. When I asked God what he wanted me to focus on this next year, he asked me to let him tell me who he is. To sit with the truth of his character. To avoid letting truth pass me by like an Instagram post. But to receive the truth and let it transform me. source God ..read more

Why is Ash Wednesday so packed?
The Salt Stories - adventures of everyday, moving further up and further in

Church is always filled to the brim on Ash Wednesday, with people standing in the back, kids fidgeting in the pews, and people making time to start the Lenten season. But why? You can make the simple argument that people come because they get something, an outward sign of ashes, but I think it may be more than that. The world often implies that what is right in front of us is all there is. We live like what matters to us most is a promotion or success, a feeling of happiness, acceptance or ease, money, or momentary needs or wants.  So much of our days are consumed with getting these thin ..read more

Did you watch the VMAs last month? I bet you didn’t know that Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI was in attendance at this year’s MTV awards’ show. Well maybe that’s a stretch, he was not physically in attendance, but one of his lessons made an appearance. Hang in there with me, I will explain. The VMAs never disappointments in delivering out of this world and buzz worthy performances. This year the most intriguing and emotional exhibition came from Vision’s performance of 1-800-273-8255 ft. Alessia Cara and Khalid. See it here… Every time the song opens and I hear Vision say, “I don’t wann ..read more

Dear Friend, On today your wedding day, I can’t stop thinking about how proud I am of you, not only proud of the relationship and love that we are celebrating today, but of the friend, woman, and human you have grown to be. As you adorn yourself with all the pretty little things, you are truly glowing with bridal beauty, you take my breath away. The time spent on hair, makeup, and putting on your perfect dress draws my mind to all the beauty I see in you. Your beauty is deep, like all the way to your guts deep. It is innate, constant, and unshakeable inside of you. This is the beauty you have ..read more

Two baptisms, three deaths, and a whole lot of grace
The Salt Stories - adventures of everyday, moving further up and further in

In the summer months we celebrate several anniversaries. July 20th, is our Anna’s baptism anniversary. A sweet and simple day that always brings back wonderful chrism smell memories. The reminder that our daughter is sealed in Christ. Her anniversary reminds me that today, and everyday, no matter her physical, mental, or emotional state, God chooses Anna as his daughter. His mercy and grace are so big, that he would even offer them to a baby who can offer nothing in return. As I remember the water flowing over her head, her wearing a sweet white gown, passed down from the generation before, a ..read more

A letter to my child’s preschool teachers
The Salt Stories - adventures of everyday, moving further up and further in
by Amy

Dear sweet preschool teachers, It is hard to leave my child with you. Well not you in particular, but with anyone. It is hard to allow someone else to care for my precious child for the majority of the day and to be a part of our crazy experience of raising a human. I also know it is hard to spend 10 hours a day with 20 toddlers. I know you go home extremely tired and physically and mentally spent.   Your back may be sore from bending low to speak to my daughter softly, caring for her scrapes, and offering affirmation. Your heart may ache because you see her value even on her&nb ..read more

Lifting my head from the postpartum joy and fog to introduce you to Stuart Joseph Wiggin born February 3rd, 2017 at 4:50pm. Our family feels full and right, he fits in to the crazy that is Wiggin like a champ. Anna Roo is happy to share her toys and enjoys the new title of big sister. She has suggested putting the baby in the refrigerator twice, but mostly ohs and ahs over his chubby cheeks and tiny toes and continues on with her eccentric toddler ways. Mom and Dad are thankful for the help and love of grandparents, siblings, and friends during this transition and adjusting to our new a ..read more

An Advent Playlist: Waiting in Wonder
The Salt Stories - adventures of everyday, moving further up and further in

In December, slivers of Christmas are everywhere, a few presents still to buy, pieces of wrapping paper all over the house, beautiful lights around the neighborhood, the intoxicating scent of our Christmas tree, our simple paper nativity set, the empty waiting stockings, and our advent candles flickering each night at dinner. Everywhere there is a little, often sweet and wonderful, piece of Christmas knocking at my door. In the midst of these signs of Christmas, I so badly desire to still honor the season of Advent and squeeze every ounce of goodness from the short season ..read more

The Bridegroom’s Love
The Salt Stories - adventures of everyday, moving further up and further in

At weddings, when the bride walks in for her big entrance, some heads turn to focus on the groom, to catch his reaction of seeing his bride. Every man takes this moment differently and each expression is unique to the man and the relationship, none better than another. The best thing about this moment is, that in a relationship founded on love, the groom’s joy, excitement, and thankfulness stream out of his eyes. Check it out here… [via Dallas Wilson Wedding Films / Facebook] Of course, as humans, these excited and breath-taking moments are often intermixed with a healthy fear ..read more

Lessons from Mrs. Kim: My Gilmore’d Life
The Salt Stories - adventures of everyday, moving further up and further in

Y’all. I am going to say it. I am a Gilmore Girls expert. No humility, no shame. I watched the show as it came out and have been constantly cycling through each season for the last 7 years, with a steady 2-4 episodes a week. Needless to say, I can quote every episode and have lots of opinions, but I don’t watch because its perfect, or because I agree with all the decisions all the characters make. I watch because I feel like a citizen in the whimsical world that is Stars Hollow. If you have been living under a box the last year, you might have missed that the series is returning to Netfl ..read more
