You know the saying, Those who can’t do, teach? I’ll let you in on a secret: Those who can’t do also write. This rings true at least in my case, since I often cover hacks and habits for better sleep… all the while dealing with lifelong insomnia and a history of relying on meds or supplements to induce my ZZZ’s.
Last spring, an email about the newly launched Sleep Enhancement Program at Ananda in the Himalayas landed in my inbox. I was intrigued straight away. A wellness program integrating ancient Ayurvedic practices and principles, customized for my dosha (constitution) and lifestyle, correct ..read more

At this point, you’ve probably heard someone in your life—a TikTok influencer, gym bro Tinder date, or maybe even those of us at Well+Good—talk about the importance of getting enough protein to keep your body feeling full, satisfied, and energetic. It has other benefits, too: Protein can help build and repair muscle, support organ function, aid in nail and hair growth, and improve your immune system. Additionally, it’s associated with better physical performance in postmenopausal women and is a key part of healthy aging.
Despite knowing all the pros, getting enough protein isn’t always the eas ..read more

A stinging sensation when you pee, cramping in your lower belly, an intense urge to tinkle all day long. Anyone who’s ever had a urinary tract infection (UTI) knows it’s not pleasant. Add on gut health issues like diarrhea, and you might be wondering what’s up. Is an upset stomach usually a UTI symptom?

For most of us, sweat is a part of everyday life. It’s normal to smell after a hard workout or on a particularly hot day. Fun fact: the sweat itself isn’t what’s causing the stink. Your sudden increase of body odor is actually from sweat mixing with the bacteria on your skin.
But why do your armpits sometimes smell like onions? Now that’s a pretty extreme smell that anyone would feel concerned (and let’s be real, maybe embarrassed) about.
Here, a dermatologist shares four reasons why your body odor can smell like onions, and how to get rid of it, so you can go back to feeling fresh and clean ..read more

Perhaps the thing I’ve come to love most about astrology over the years I’ve spent covering it is that it reinforces a comforting truth: Everything in life happens in seasons. The predictable repetition of cosmic transits is a helpful anchor, reminding us that any rough patch will eventually reach its end. That’s the moment where we find ourselves now, about to enter a new chapter after a dramatic eclipse season and disruptive Mercury retrograde. Not only will we get the bliss of a retrograde-free period from April 25 to May 2, but come May 18, 2024, we’ll experience the luckiest day of the ye ..read more

Resting tends to be something we put off or save for later when there’s “more time.” Yet, when we’re feeling fatigued, rushed, or distracted, slowing down can be one of the most productive ways to recharge a tired body and fragmented mind.
“So much of our day-to-day life is ruled by demands on our time, energy, and bodies,” says yoga teacher Victoria Rutledge, E-RYT 500. “Slowing down allows us to notice our patterns of thought and cultivate a non-judgmental self-awareness that primes us for honest and generous communication with ourselves and our communities.”
If you’re imagining a long mid-a ..read more

In my 20s and early 30s, I didn’t own flats. I lived in New York then, and, much like Carrie Bradshaw, I constantly ran around the city in 5-inch stilettos. Cut to eight years ago, and a freak slip on black ice caused me not only to break my ankle in two places, but to rethink my entire “shoedrobe” for good. Gone were the high heels of the past; in their place stepped a host of ballet flats and sandals that, while not doing much to increase my 5-foot height, definitely made my ankle feel a heck of a lot better, even long after it healed.
All this is to say, I’m constantly on the lookout for fl ..read more

The seasoned home chef knows that no matter your skill level, not every recipe will be a slam-dunk. Part of spending time in the kitchen is accepting that some recipes will make your taste buds sing, while others will leave you crying on the floor (just me?). Social media recipes represent the epitome of the challenging cooking truth that, sometimes, you just have to take a gastronomical leap of faith—but is there a better way to predict whether those viral TikTok and Instagram recipes are truly worth your time?
There’s a reason we fall head over heels for the beautiful recipes on our screens ..read more
