I am curious if the government agency such as DOT or Amtrak hire non civil PE to be a resident engineer or project manager. Non civil PE is like fire protection, electrical, industrial, etc.

What should I be taught/what should I be getting exposed to beginning career? How do I tell if I am getting the knowledge I need to become a decent engineer at the job I'm at? Don't want to go into specific discipline for anonymitys sake. Selfish question kind of but thanks!

Has anyone had a past manager not respond to requests to sign off on experience? How long do you wait until showing up in-person, calling the board, etc?
The employment sign offs definitely makes early career job hopping an awkward situation. Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi, high school student looking to go to uni for civil engineering undergrad, do I need a beefed up PC, or will a decent laptop be fine? I've heard that 95% of the time your computer is a glorified pdf viewer and your screen and keyboard are far more important than your actual specs. In your experience has this been true? Would it be viable to just carry a thin and light laptop and have a capable tower PC elsewhere to remote desktop into?

Hello!
I know you generally need planning permission to create a poured driveway in cities, for things such as drainage. I have an RV and I'd like to store it at my house, and I don't need another fully poured driveway. So, what about porous driveways such as gravel? What if I don't remove the curb? Will I likely still need permission? Would it affect anything if the bottom couple feet were pavers?
I know that this probably varies depending on city and state, but I'd like to hear some advice before dealing with any bureaucracy, so I figured this was worth a try. I live in Georgia, U.S.A., if ..read more

I've been researching structural steel detailing software and I've narrowed it down to two top contenders: SDS2 and Tekla. However, I'm having trouble deciding between the two.
I'd love to hear from those who have experience with either SDS2 or Tekla. Which one do you prefer, and more importantly, why? What are the strengths and weaknesses of each software? Are there any standout features that make one better suited for certain projects?
Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated as I weigh my options. Thanks in advance for your help!
