Burglars attempted to tunnel through other businesses into a jewelry store in Los Angeles, police said.
The incident happened at about 2 a.m. Monday at Denny Lesser Jewelry in the Chatsworth neighborhood, KTLA-TV reported. The would-be thieves left with nothing after the owner, who was on-site, alerted police.
A salon owner told KTLA that the suspects were “making a tunnel from store to store until they reach the jewelry store.”
Two suspects reportedly used a sledgehammer to break through six walls belonging to three businesses.

The U.S. secondhand retail market reached $43 billion in 2023 and will hit $73 billion by 2028, according to a report from ThredUp.
The secondhand market in the U.S. is growing seven times faster than the wider American apparel market – year over year, the secondhand market grew 11 percent in 2023. The report predicts that the market will reach $69 billion by 2027, which is down from the $70 billion predicted in ThredUp’s 2023 report.
Worldwide, the secondhand retail market hit $197 billion in 2023 and is predicted to reach $350 billion by 2028.

Beyond Inc., parent company of the Bed, Bath & Beyond and Overstock brands, announced Carlisha Robinson as the company’s new chief customer officer in a press release from the company.
The company also relaunched the Overstock.com website earlier this week. Executive Chairman Marcus Lemonis said in a recent earnings call that shutting down Overstock.com was a “fatal mistake.”

Americans are expected to spend $22.4 billion on Easter this year, according to a report from the National Retail Federation (NRF).
While the figure is the second-highest recorded in the NRF’s history, it is under last year’s total, which set the record at $24 billion in total sales. However, the NRF notes that Easter fell later in the year in 2023, which could account for more time for consumers to shop.
