Eating Vegan In Bratislava, Slovakia

Almost a month later and I'm still thinking about the food we ate in Bratislava. FOODSTOCK - On our first afternoon in Bratislava, we stopped off at Foodstock which is in the heart of Old Town. After a quick scan of the menu, J went ahead and ordered us a portion of gyoza and a bowl of miso soup each. I'd never had miso soup before and after trying it, I was left wondering why I'd gone 25 years without it. It was so much nicer than I expected it to be and I'm going to be trying to recreate it at home. I'm a big fan of gyoza and have had plenty in the past but these were honestly ..read more

A Trip To Bratislava, Slovakia

We booked a trip to Bratislava, Slovakia on somewhat of a whim and last-minute basis, so we didn't have much time to research the city or plan an itinerary. (We usually make a loose itinerary to make sure we tick off everything we want to do).       After a 3:30am wake up, a taxi to the airport and a 2.5-hour flight, we landed in Bratislava. We stayed at the Above the Historical Roofs apartment located right in the heart of the old town - the perfect place for a weekend of exploring. We packed ready for freezing temperatures, but we were pleasantly surprised by sun and temperatu ..read more

Saving For A House Deposit

My boyfriend and I have recently bought our first home, so I thought I'd share a few things I did to help save for my half of the deposit. First off I just want to say that I know owning a home isn't the be-all and end-all and it isn't for everybody. It's a huge commitment, not to mention a huge expense. Personally, I've pretty much always wanted my own place but didn't want to rent. I rented at uni and had to deal with a very odd landlord, so once those two years were over, so were my days of renting. I wanted somewhere I could feel secure and decorate however I pleased, just somewher ..read more

Eating Vegan In York, Yorkshire

From vegan breakfasts to generous portions of vegan junk food, York has plenty of gems if you're looking for somewhere to eat vegan. Note: We also ate at Doner Summer in Spark:York. However, due to the lighting, the photos I got were awful and no amount of editing was saving them. We had kebabs as well as hummus and chips and it was all delicious and I 100% recommend you check them out. Now, onto the rest of the food... ONE ACROSS THE GARDEN - The perfect vegan junk food joint. Serving burgers, hotdogs, fries and wings, it's exactly the kind of food you wa ..read more

A Trip To York, Yorkshire

For our first trip away of 2020, we jumped on the train after work one Friday and headed up north to York. That may have made it sound like it was a spur of the moment trip. In actual fact, I booked in last October as a birthday present to J. A two and a half hour train journey later, we arrived in York and headed straight to the hotel to drop our case off. We stayed at Moxy Hotel in central York. It was modern, clean and comfortable - and you can't ask for much more. The aim of this little trip away was to relax, so we didn't have a huge list of things we wanted to do or see. We ju ..read more

We Bought A House

That's right, we bought a house. Somehow, even in the current housing market, we managed it. I am in no way intending this post to come off as a brag. Buying a house is hard and I realise how lucky I am to have had this opportunity. Saving for a mortgage in an absolute piss-take. Jobs don't pay enough, living costs are too high, and there are people out there spending hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds on rail and bus passes for public transport that is on-time 1% of the time - no exaggeration. I'm lucky that I only have to get one, 20-minutes-if-the traffic-isn't-too-bad bus into work ..read more

Eating Vegan At Chilango, Birmingham

One Saturday afternoon, J and I went off in search of some food to help us recover from the night before. Founded in 2007, twelve years later, Chilango has finally made it to Birmingham. Located on Colmore Row, just up the road from New Street station, we popped into Chilango in search of those sweet, sweet carbs. The restaurant is really spacious, great for both smaller and larger groups and the decor is a mixture of eclectic patterns and prints but remains spacious with a minimal feel. Now, the food. In regards to the ordering process, I would say it's something like a subway bu ..read more

2020 Updates & Goals

With the new year comes a new set of goals. I'll be honest, I'm pretty proud of how well I did ticking off my 2019 New Year's Resolution list. There was only one thing I didn't quite manage to do, which out off around 15 things, isn't bad going. If you take a look at my 2019 goals, you'll notice I didn't share all 15 of them. There were some that I wanted to keep to myself, mainly because I was worried that by sharing them, I'd somehow jinx myself and not manage them.  Well, now that I've ticked them off my to-do list, I'll let you know what some of them were.  The first was to pass my ..read more

This year saw me visit Dublin for the third time, so I think it's safe to say that I'm quite a fan of the city. As I said, this wasn't my first time visiting Dublin. I first went back in 2017 which you can read in the blog post: A Trip To Dublin, Ireland. I then went again the following year as well as a couple of other places in Ireland which you can read about in the blog post: A Trip To Dubin, Roscommon and Galway Originally, J and I were flying over to see Sigrd perform at Arena 3, but gradually more people wanted to come along a ..read more

A Trip To Barcelona, Spain

A little late posting this one, but this is what I got up to during my trip to Barcelona in October.  I headed to Barcelona with my sister at the beginning of October. We'd had the trip planned for a while but it seemed to come around so quickly. We landed in Barcelona on Saturday afternoon and headed straight to our hostel - Hostal River - which was situated right off La Rambla - an incredibly handy area to stay, albeit a little busy. As it was a little while ago now, I can't remember exactly the order we did things in, but I'm pretty sure on the first day we had a wander around ..read more
