0.29 carat Red Emerald Center Stone 0.45 total carat weight in Diamond Melee 18K White Gold Band 18K Yellow Gold Cradle Rubies, like Red Emeralds, come in many colors. Rubies mined from specific parts of the world display certain shades dependent upon their locality (or origin). Myanmar gems, for instance, typically have a slightly-purplish undertone. The most desirable Ruby is pure red, but consumer demand for purple as a secondary hue is also strong, because placing a Burmese Ruby in yellow gold neutralizes part of the blue wavelength our eyes can see, making the red 'pop' and appear richer ..read more

PRINCESS CUT SKY-BLUE DIAMOND

1.22 carat, 5.99mm x 5.76mm Gemstones appeared in my personal history when my sisters started getting married. My birthstone is Sapphire, and my sister Jolie's antique ring shows off dozens of those same blues in trillion cuts matched with white Diamonds of similar shape and size, set in a vintage piece with highly-detailed craftsmanship. My sister Jill wears a Chocolate Diamond of near-perfect clarity and ideal color. Because of them, I started thinking about wedding rings in Color. The Hope Diamond is Blue, the Argyle Mine in Australia produces Pinks, and anyone can dig up Yellows at the ..read more

JOHN DYER-CUT UNENHANCED RED EMERALD

6.6mm x 5.8mm 1.68 carat This is a man who needs no introduction, but for those who don't know him…allow me to introduce you. John Dyer is a world-famous master gemstone cutter who has won 58 cutting awards (so far!), and he is the only faceter to ever sweep an entire category of AGTA Cutting Edge Awards (three times!). In summation, he is one of the greatest gemcutters alive today, and one of the best who has ever lived. When I first began collecting red beryl specimens, I had a theory that the reason no one could recognize this stone as a precious gem was because no had seen any stunning e ..read more

LARGE BUBBLEGUM RED BERYL ON MATRIX

Estimated Weight 45+ carats 25.5 mm x 16.1 mm x 14.9 mm When I first published the Red Emerald Black Album in 2017, my goal was to offer the world its first glimpse of the standard red beryl mineral form. Most scientific and related articles studied and covered only a handful of specimens, due to the rarity and difficulty in acquiring them. Never had hundreds of examples been gathered to present a true cross-section of these minerals to the public. I included photographs of the best 80 free-floating prisms in my collection, with sizes ranging from a quarter carat to 45 carats. The dimensions ..read more

PALLASITE PERIDOT
The Red Emerald
by Seth Rozendaal

0.46 carat Oval Cut 5.8 mm x 4.0 mm Stony meteorites are rich in iron, nickel and heavy elements less-common on the surface of our planet…such as Iridium. Less than 2% of all meteorites are Pallasitic, which means they contain gem crystals of Peridot inside them! Only 3 falls with crystals are known in the US, and only 35 have been discovered so far in the entire world. These interstellar versions of gem quality olivine are differentiated from the Peridot originating on Earth by their higher concentration of Iridium. A slice of meteor from Admire, Kansas illustrates how a Pallasite Peridot c ..read more

0.26 carat Emerald Cut 4.90mm x 3.47mm x 1.88mm Ronald Ringsrud wrote in Emeralds: A Passionate Guide, "The fascination and wonder that accompanies the discovery of new knowledge…is exactly the proper use of science: to lead us to amazement of Nature's creation and to experience a sense of wonder. There is no better place to rediscover wonder than in [the] remarkable phenomenon that occurs deep inside the finest Emeralds." Because nearly every example necessarily contains natural features, Emeralds are considered a Type III Gemstone under the Gemological Institute of America's Clarity Classi ..read more

WAH-WAH HYALITE OPAL SPECIMEN

25.6mm x 19.5mm x 7.0mm 12.21 carat Many minerals have a percentage of examples exhibiting Fluorescence. Reportedly, no Red Emerald gems are fluorescent…but technically, that's not exactly true. I have TWO specimens that DO react under long and short-wave ultra-violet light. It is important to note INCLUSIONS are reacting…not the actual beryl itself. While red beryl is full of trace elements, of the inclusions present, only Hyalite Opal is known to be UV-reactive. Facet-grade, gem-quality crystal loses the concentration of inclusions required for fluorescence to be visible to the naked eye ..read more

3.9 tcw Unheated Australian Sapphire 1.27 tcw Santa Maria Aquamarine 0.34 tcw White Diamonds Sapphire is my birthstone. During my 35th birthday in September 2013, I was just beginning to learn about gemstones. I went to Inverell, New South Wales, Australia -- a town nicknamed the Sapphire City. My hometown of Grinnell, Iowa is the Jewel of the Prairie, so I felt drawn to this kindred community. A GIA survey estimated as many as 98% of all sapphires have been heated -- torched at jet engine temperatures to burn out impurities, making them appear less imperfect than they form in nature. I deci ..read more

PERFECTLY-ORIENTED DEMANTOID HORSETAIL
The Red Emerald

0.8 carat 5.4mm Round Cut Not all inclusions are created equal; those which add light return, brilliance or offer interesting features can enhance a stone's value. Catseye Rubies, Star Sapphires, Trapiche Emeralds and Demantoid Garnet Horsetails are all examples of desirable inclusion patterns. Demantoid Garnets from Russia often contain inclusions of chrysotile - fibers radiating outward from a single nucleation point. These shimmery threads resemble the tail of a horse. Typically, they're wispy and small, and can only be viewed under magnification. The BEST horsetails are large and oriente ..read more
