Wedding Photography at The Lensbury

Every year I learn or realise something new as a wedding photographer. One of the many things I learnt all over again this year is that there are many different elements to a wedding day and many reasons why people get married. Overwhelmingly those who chose to go ahead this summer with a small wedding within the current restrictions quite simply wanted to get married. Overwhelmingly too they wanted to have a party to celebrate their wedding with their friends and family – but that could wait until 2021 or 2022, that was different. What really mattered was actually getting married. It was a d ..read more

August Wedding Photography

I first heard from Holly and Tobias in August 2018 – they were going to get married on August 22nd 2020 and was I available. All was going well and the months were ticking by – until March, when we all went into lockdown, with no weddings allowed. In these unsure circumstances most people postponed or rearranged their dates… but not Holly and Tobias. When lockdown ended there was a window when we were allowed weddings with up to 30 guests and in that window fell August 22nd. Yes, it was a day of many and varied phases, all of which were hugely enjoyable! With enormous ingenuity, resource and ..read more

February Wedding at Farbridge

The year started so well with this gorgeous wedding at Farbridge – Farbridge looked absolutely fabulous styled with Cherry Blossom tress from @tohaveandtohire_weddings. The low sunlight caught the trees beautifully and Bess looked stunning as she wandered amongst them. After years of photographing weddings in February it’s fair to say the weather can go either way: yes, it can be grey and rainy, but it can also be warm and sunny. I’ve photographed Valentine’s Day weddings where we have been outside whilst there was daylight, and Bess and Dan’s day was one of those gloriously sunny February day ..read more

2020: A Review of the Year

Usually at this time of the year I start thinking about writing a review post for the blog, taking in highlights of the year’s weddings – you may have noticed I haven’t added any new posts for some time. For a long time it was hard to know what to say – it’s been a difficult year for all of us and the world of weddings has been no different, with weddings allowed, then not allowed, then with up to 30 guests and finally as I write this with up to 15 including the Bride and Groom. It’s been a difficult year for all of us and the world of weddings has been no different… Throughout the year I ha ..read more

For anybody thinking about their wedding photography this is a really interesting set of pictures – because there were just so many phases to this day. ‘Getting ready’ pictures are a Marmite issue, some people shudder at the thought, whilst for others they are absolutely essential. Sarah was 100% sure she wanted the getting ready phase of the day covered and it lead to some fabulous images – Sara’s huge smile on seeing what her make-up looked like will stay with me for a long time, whilst Dad with the necklace is another favourite. All of this was at home which also added to the photographs. C ..read more

Time for something of a catch up… and a chance to look back on some fabulous sunny days this summer, none more so than Edie and Chris’s wedding at Brighton College in July. My brief from Edie and Chris was for light and airy pictures that naturally captured the happiness of the day and so I both took and edited the pictures with that in mind. The result speaks for itself in many ways, but I think it’s worth pointing out that to really capture natural pictures you have to blend in as much as possible – my favourite feedback comment that I often hear is ‘we thought you were a guest’. The traditi ..read more

Some of you will know that I have just celebrated my 25th Anniversary as a professional photographer. At every wedding I photograph a guest will take me to one side and say that I look like I hugely enjoy what I do – which is absolutely true. But one of the other great joys of what I do is photographing different members of the same family over a number of years. I first met Beth at her sister Nikki’s wedding nearly 4 years ago, so it was wonderful to see her and her family again – and to see Nikki and Mark with two small children! It was great too to meet Will before the day and go over their ..read more

“These pictures are incredible! Thank you so much for sending these across so quickly. We had the best time, and that certainly comes across in the pictures so thank you for capturing the joy so perfectly.  From our first phone call I knew we were on the same page and I was right! You totally got everything I wanted and the pictures are just so fantastic I am over the moon.” As I said in my recent blog post on how to choose your wedding photographer, there are many different styles to choose from and different ways to photograph your big day so the most important thing is to choose what is rig ..read more

My last visit to Loseley in May produced some beautiful pictures and I was looking forward to my return with Sophie and Simon – when we met we had talked about ways to have great pictures in the gardens and in front of the house without taking time away from guests. As mentioned in recent posts, it was actually meeting that helped to find the right balance between semi formal pictures and reportage or captured moments. The light in long summer evenings is a fabulous gift and the chance to grab a few pictures in the gentle evening light is not to be missed … Pictures in the gardens and in front ..read more

Ramster May Wedding

May is a great month for a wedding – the days are fantastically long, not far off the longest day in mid June, and flowers and gardens are at their peak. It’s no accident the the RHS has its biggest show at Chelsea in May! Ramster is never better, its star rhododendrons making a fabulous photogenic background for any wedding. I love the shots of Amanda and her bridesmaids arriving in the VW Campers surrounded by the amazing colours of the trees (VWs from www.rustyandroses.com). If ever a picture said Ramster in May it would be one of these. The flowers in the garden meant we were spoilt for ch ..read more
