Does anyone have recommendations for some software suitable for selecting pipe sizing for glycol pipework. This will be for a 1000+kw production air conditioning system. My company has a spreadsheet for this purpose but the macros are a little cooked atm, I've never used it before and my boss is in hospital, soooo. As I usually do, I get it done with the tools at my disposal....you lot. Ive got plenty of experience with refrigerant pipe sizing and use Danfoss cool selector for that. But I can't fine glycol, unless I'm looking in the wrong place. Something free would be awesome. But some ideas ..read more

Got asked to work on this glycol system. (I’ve never touched anything like this) it’s a walk in cooler for the beer kegs, walk in temp is 34° and glycol temp is 30° but beer at the tap is 62°. submitted by /u/Kidshadow760 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Plastic smell from brand new air con unit

Hi, I wondered if I might ask for advice about a plastic smell coming from a band new air con unit? The smell gives me an epic sinus headache. The unit is a De'Longhi Pinguino PACEX100 Silent I tried running the fan for months in the shed, but the smell hasn't gone away. A professional air con repairer came and looked. He can smell the smell too, but doesn't know what it is or how to get rid of it. The unit still cools, so he says it can't be leaking. I had the same problem with a previous portable air con unit, but I am fine with the air con in our BMW, and with the air con in our old mondeo ..read more

Advice on getting started

I’m 29f in Adelaide, Australia and have spent the last 10 years working in various cafes and retail environments. I don’t really enjoy it and with the increasing cost of being alive I need something better. I’ve always enjoyed more physical jobs that get me up and moving and so am now looking at going for an apprenticeship but torn between being a sparky or a fridgey. I’ve heard that it might be better to try the refrigeration route as there are apparently a lot of wannabe electricians out there meaning more competition for apprenticeships and jobs. In the long run I think it’d be great to ge ..read more

R290 recovery

I got my epa 608 in 1999, I recently learned were supposed to have a HC cert, ok so I read the thing and take test. The study guide was talking about recovering r290? “EPA regulations prohibit venting any refrigerant including HC….” I don’t recover 290 and was always under the understanding that we do not need to recover. I will suck it into a vacuumed recovery tank, just to take outside and vent if needed. Did something change in this? submitted by /u/No_Negotiation_5537 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
