I mean no disrespect in the title of this post as its purpose rather is to make a point to people that believe that some women are “JUST” moms. Being a mom has been the most amazing blessing and privilege. It has taught me so much about myself. I have had to fight harder than ever before; I have had to love like never before; and I have had to put someone (two “someones”) way before any of my needs. I have been scared and happy; I have been tired and impatient; I have been determined and selfless. It has not always been sunshine and roses. It has been tough – and there have been times where I ..read more

MOMS MATTER TOO: A few things that twin moms can and cannot do…

The fact that this is my first post of 2017 and it is already the end of January, proves a point – moms sometimes get so busy raising their children and making sure that their children (and husbands of course) are off to a good start at the beginning of a new year, that their own ‘to do’ list gets put on hold. Yes, I have been busy planning my year too BUT until those plans become a reality, I remain a stay-at-home mom first; whilst doing everything else too. Let me first say that the title of this post basically has to do with a bit of self-discovery. As mothers, we often feel like we are not ..read more

What 2016 taught me…

At the end of every year we start reflecting on things that have/have not taken place in the past 11/12 months (depending when your reflections start). Have we achieved the goals we set out for ourselves in the January i.e. New Years resolutions? Perhaps it was to: lose weight, find true love, have children, change jobs, move towns, buy a new car/house, pay off a loan, take a vacation… We all generally hypothesise about how our year will turn out. For some people, especially those that are very goal oriented, your 2016 may have gone totally according to plan. For others, it may not have come c ..read more

When Fibromyalgia and Motherhood COLLIDE…

Fibromyalgia is defined as “a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues” Motherhood is defined as “the state or experience of having or raising a child”  A collision is defined as “an event in which two or more bodies exert forces on each other…” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in March 2015, after suffering from severe fatigue and a sharp, constant pain in my back (on the left side between my spine and scapula/shoulder blade). The Chiropractor and Physiotherapist I was seeing ..read more

When you become a parent, you learn A LOT about yourself. Maybe you have always seen yourself as a patient and/or energetic person… Being a parent can definitely change this about you (even if for a moment) – especially when you: lack sleep only have your coffee at midday… and 99% of the time it is cold don’t get time to eat because your twins take turns to be awake all day long (“Hangry” mode can kick in) need to wrestle your baby to lie on their back when you try and change the most hectic poo nappy ever – but all they want to do is roll onto their tummies when your twins are both teething ..read more

I am the “1 in 4”

“A study says, 1 in 4 women will seek treatment for depression at any one time; 8-15% will experience postnatal depression after giving birth. There are various reasons which cause depression among women. Women may juggle a number of roles within a family- they could be a partner, carer, and mother as well as run the household and hold down a job. Concerns about their own safety, working at home primarily on housework and poverty can all make women feel isolated. Sexual and physical abuse can have a devastating impact on their mental health- this is especially true if no help is sought. Women ..read more

~A LETTER OF ENCOURAGEMENT~ Dear Mom of Twins, Firstly, I want to start off by congratulating you on making it through another day. This may sound silly to others but MAN it can be tough and super tiring to look after two babies all day, everyday. As you have probably come to find – motherhood is a somewhat thankless job (whether you have one child or 10) that involves A LOT of poop, scoffing down your food, and drinking cold coffee. No one pats you on the back and celebrates your hard work. Although you wouldn’t change it for the world and there is nothing more rewarding than having YOUR very ..read more

When you are told you are having twins, all you can think about is ALL THE STUFF YOU WILL NEED! How on earth will we afford TWO of everything?! And where will we put it all? Well, we found that there were things you definitely needed two of, but you could also get away with a lot less than you would think (read about how to prepare for two, here). There are obviously many more things that have helped other people, some things we probably didn’t even think of, but here are but a few things that have helped us thus far… ***Please note that none of the things mentioned in this post have been giv ..read more

Home time… FINALLY!

It is an incredible yet petrifying feeling when you get the phone call to say that your baby is ready to be discharged from hospital. After watching our tiny and fragile babies go through so much, we wondered if we were capable of looking after them as well as the nursing staff did. We wondered if they were stable enough to come home – what if they were still too small? Or get sick again? The thing is, you ARE capable. And although you’ve been somewhat robbed of a normal start to parenting (read about that here and here), it is your opportunity to finally experience what others have. Oliver wa ..read more
