Tags not copying to one specific veiw?

I copy/paste aligned all my wall tags, room tag, etc. to a few different views but there’s one specific view that where I get the error message “some tags were not copied because they could not find a host” and then NONE of the tags copy. I tested each tag type with individual tags and none of them will copy to the view in question but then also tags made in that veiw won’t copy to other levels. All the views have the exact same view template but I turned on everything and tried again, no luck. The wall types and marks are all the same. The tags will copy to the same level with a different vi ..read more

Help with a family/ annotation

i need to create a family in revit. the goal of this would be so i can place it in a room and it will label the dimensions x and y of the room. if the room is L shaped i want it to based on where the object is place it will give the dimensions for example if at the bottom of the L the x distance would be longer if it is placed in the L shaped room at the top. My hope is to be able to quickly drop these in rooms to provide dimensions for spaces that will be altered so i dont want to dimension both directions in each room. submitted by /u/G_Affect [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Energy Envelope Diagrams Workflow

Which method do you recommend for developing Envelope elevations for Energy submission sheets? From past projects I've worked on, typically filled regions are used. I feel that, albeit those can be scheduled, it still relies on manual updates. Material take-offs seem promising, but because it's by category, it seems that different schedules would be needed for curtain panels, walls, windows, doors, etc. I am curious to hear your thoughts and preferences, thank you in advance! submitted by /u/LuizaCanuto [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Any random lot dimensions for a site plan?

This might not be a complete Revit issue but I don't know where to ask so let me know. Anyway; I'm a student currently working on an apartment building for class. Unfortunately, my very considerate professor told us to make a site plan and put the building on it with the whole shaboodle; angles, dimensions, all that stuff. I don't know how to find property information like that, though, and I don't know what I'm doing. I've been looking around but can't seem to find a site to put my building on. Googling "site plans" has been a bust with little to no detail or the lots are WAY too big (My bui ..read more

Elevation missing from work planes

Hi, I have a problem with missing reference planes for elevation with in-place mass. I wanted to follow a tutorial but I can't get past this window since for them, it shows elevation reference and for me, it only shows level floor plans. I wanted to upload a link to the screenshot but the post got removed. Does anyone know what could be done about this? submitted by /u/TonCZ [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Is Revit the right choice for this kind of work?

We are looking to upgrade from AutoCAD to something 3d that handles custom part designs, parts libraries, and bill of materials...EDIT: also shop drawings for welding/assembly/install. Bonus points for physics/analysis like assembly weight and strength under load, tracking labor hours. The salesman has steered us towards Revit. Mainly we get napkin sketches to .PDFs of architects building plans, and devise some kind of fence or screen system that also suits whatever style the customer wants, mostly boring industrial stuff. 95% of what we ship out was made in our shop. How do you deal with linked/aspect models for say fire protection?

I'm looking for a better method to show wall/floor fire ratings in views. Filters works fine in principle until a wall spans multiple spaces and needs to be split, and I'm not prepared to split walls/floors so they can be used wit ha filter, not to mention the multiple family types I will need. Using a linked model with basic walls/floors/roofs seems logical, they can be generic and have only the required fire rating parameters associated to them. What I'm trying to figure out is do I use filters or give the objects materials which show the colours? Or both? How do others approach this way of ..read more

Modeling Families natively in Revit vs. importing from other CAD software
Reddit - Revit

When creating a Revit Family, are there any disadvantages to importing some or all of the assembly's components from external CAD files rather than modeling everything natively in Revit? When imported .dwgs are exploded into Free Form Elements, they can easily be assigned material properties and even locked to reference planes for basic parametric dimensioning. The only downsides that come to my mind when importing manufacturer CAD files are a potentially unnecessary high level of model detail or excessive tesselation. Also, in some cases, it may be quicker to create basic extrusions, revolut ..read more

Adding contractors/ members to bim360

Hi there, There is a little confusion as to how to add external members to our BIM360 folder, it seems like no one outside the company has access to the folders even though they are a project member. We are hesitant to give them admin rights to the folder, is it normal to give outside contractors project admin rights to a project folder?? submitted by /u/anonimalistic [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
