Please help me find ideal BBQ

Hey guys, since it's this time of year (that we might have a one sunny week in Ireland) and that I finally have my own house, I've decided that I need to buy a proper BBQ. I always used a small round charcoal one and kind of love the flavor that charcoal gives, but my neighbors try to convince me that gas is the way to go since you can just start it in seconds and it's ready whenever you want. I'm kind of torn, because the smoky flavor of charcoal is a core of bbq for me. Is there some middle ground? I've seen BBQs you can convert in a few minutes from gas to coal. Should I go that way? We Mexicans basically only use mesquite coal. However, I recently found out that my son is allergic to mesquite.
