The 2022 FIFA World Cup round of 16 is halfway over.
France and England became the latest teams to punch a ticket to the quarterfinals in Qatar on Sunday. Kylian Mbappe powered reigning champion France past Poland 3-1, while England cruised to a 3-0 win over Senegal. Les Bleus and the Three Lions will now meet in the quarterfinals.
Another two round of 16 matchups are scheduled for Monday, with the 2018 runner-up and the 2022 favorite among the teams in action.

A suspected armed robber of a Mission Valley West hotel was arrested Sunday after she fled the scene in a vehicle and was stopped by police.
The robbery happened at 5:06 a.m. on Sunday at Riverleaf Inn, 2484 Hotel Circle Place, when a woman entered the hotel armed with a handgun and pointed it at the employee behind the counter, according to Officer Sarah Foster of the San Diego Police Department.

Over the years the SDCCU Holiday Bowl has earned the reputation of being one of the most exciting, high-scoring games of the entire bowl season, and rightfully so. This year, though, might be one for the ages, and not just because it’s going to FINALLY be played at Petco Park for the first time.

Iran‘s Attorney General said Saturday that the country’s controversial morality police will be “abolished,” local media reported, amid ongoing nationwide protests.

Some say it wouldn’t be the holidays without an ugly holiday sweater.

Authorities were investigating widespread power outages in south-central North Carolina overnight as intentional criminal acts, the sheriff of Moore County said in a statement late Saturday.
An estimated 45,000 customers were without electricity late Saturday, with no estimate on a restoration time because a number of facilities are involved and the work will be complicated, said Jeff Brooks, a spokesperson for utility Duke Energy.

An Amazon tractor trailer carrying 8,000 pounds of merchandise caught fire on Interstate 15, the California Highway Patrol said Saturday.
The trailer caught fire at 7:22 p.m. Friday in the middle lanes of northbound I-15, south of Deer Springs Road, the CHP said. CHP officers, fire and paramedic personnel responded to the scene, CHP Officer Hunter Gerber said.

Taylor Swift fans are suing Live Nation Entertainment, the parent company for Ticketmaster, following the presale debacle last month for her 2023 “The Eras Tour.”
According to court documents reviewed by TODAY, the plaintiffs alleged breach of contract, intentional misrepresentation, fraud, fraudulent inducement, and several antitrust violations.
The plaintiffs are seeking a penalty of $2,500 against Ticketmaster for every violation of Business and Professions Code, section 17200.
